The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Paniikki changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kamakawiwo Ole tries to avoid it but Paniikki manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kamakawiwo Ole to the ground. Kamakawiwo Ole escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Kamakawiwo Ole walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Paniikki checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side. Paniikki avoids the body shot from Kamakawiwo Ole.
Paniikki tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kamakawiwo Ole sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Paniikki somewhat. Paniikki is looking to reverse the position. Kamakawiwo Ole working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Paniikki is looking to regain half guard here but Kamakawiwo Ole keeps moving and retains side control. Paniikki taking a bit of punishment here - Kamakawiwo Ole scoring with strikes. Paniikki is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kamakawiwo Ole is keen to just control but Paniikki is a slippery customer. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
