PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Meat Loaf (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Brent (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Loaf might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Eat My Loaf. Brent has chosen David Brent - 'Life on the Road' as his entrance music. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as David Brent enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 43 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Meat Loaf!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, David Brent!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Roosa Järviläinen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Loaf uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Brent.
Loaf throws a head kick but Brent moves out of range.
Brent tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
A decent looking cross lands there for Brent.

Brent gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Loaf to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Loaf pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Brent is keeping the position for now.
Loaf might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Brent keeping moving, preventing Loaf from controlling successfully.
Loaf looking to sit in guard and control but Brent gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Loaf looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Loaf is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Loaf is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Loaf seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Loaf wants to sweep here but Brent controlling him for the moment.
Brent slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brent postures up in Loaf's guard and throws a big left but Loaf blocks it.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Brent throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Loaf is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Loaf looking for a sweep. Not yet Loaf, not yet.
Loaf wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Brent postures up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Loaf feints a jab promting Brent to slip. Loaf then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Brent slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Brent shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Brent misses the jab.
Loaf on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Loaf lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

and Brent counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Loaf manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Brent works over Loaf with some ground and pound from guard.

Loaf pulls Brent in to control the position.
Brent won't allow Loaf to sweep him here.
Brent wants to control from the top but Loaf keeps moving.
Loaf is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Loaf wants to sweep here but Brent controlling him for the moment.
Loaf is working hard here to advance position.
Loaf is adopting a defensive guard.
Brent pushing down on Loaf's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Brent has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Well, if Brent is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Loaf trying to control but Brent postures up.
Brent takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Loaf is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Loaf trying to control from the bottom.
Brent is pressing down on Loaf's thigh, looking to free his foot. Loaf is holding on for now.
Loaf is positioning himself well to prevent Brent advancing to mount.
Loaf is trying to get back to full guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Brent thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Loaf's head.
Brent tries to pass the half guard into mount. Loaf knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Loaf is pressing down on Brent's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but David Brent will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Loaf lands with a kick to the ribs.
Brent blocks a jab.
Loaf doesn't manage to clinch there - Brent circles away.
Loaf ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Brent shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Loaf is pulling down on Brent's head to control his posture.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Brent's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Brent is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Loaf holds on and takes a little breather.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Brent misses with an uppercut. Loaf saw that one coming.

Brent shoots in and bounces Loaf off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Brent lands a couple of digs.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Brent accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Loaf is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Loaf looking for a sweep. Not yet Loaf, not yet.
Loaf is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Loaf tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Loaf swings for the body but Brent moves out of range.
Loaf goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

and Brent counters with a straight right hand.
Loaf misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Brent swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Loaf.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Brent showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Brent misses the jab.


It looks like Meat Loaf has been cut.
Brent comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Brent scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Brent throws a combination that misses

and Loaf counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Brent!
Brent can't do much from the bottom here.
Loaf advances to mount.
Loaf takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Brent is squirming around, avoiding Loaf's attempts to control the action.

Loaf working for a submission but Brent is keeping him at bay.

Loaf trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Brent is looking to improve his position but Loaf isn't that keen on the idea.

Loaf has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Brent's face.
Loaf wants to control but instead Brent manages to regain half guard.
Meat Loaf has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Brent is not content to let Loaf control the position.
Brent keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Loaf is working for a kimura but Brent is defending it quite comfortably.
Loaf is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Brent reverses the position - he's now on top in Loaf's guard.

Loaf wants to sweep here but Brent controlling him for the moment.
Loaf bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Brent's guard.

Loaf working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Brent is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Loaf wants to improve his position but Brent is controlling well.
Brent tries to pass to full mount but Loaf defends it.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Brent connects with a nice short shot to Loaf's temple.
David Brent is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Loaf is trying to get back to full guard.
Brent is taking a breather. Loaf says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Loaf is looking to improve his position.
Loaf throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Brent content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Meat Loaf showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Brent has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
