PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rick Ashton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Melcone Aisa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Ashton might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Lynyrd Skynyrd - Simple Man. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Melcone Aisa!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Yukihiro Shimada.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Ashton.
Aisa throws the left hand but Ashton avoids the punch easily.
Ashton shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Aisa sprawls well. Aisa wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Ashton gets slowly back to his feet.
Aisa throws a front kick that sends Ashton stumbling back into the cage.

Aisa gets caught flat footed, as Ashton shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Aisa seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Aisa pulls Ashton in to control the position.
Ashton throws a big elbow that misses.
Ashton missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Aisa keeping moving, preventing Ashton from controlling successfully.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Rick Ashton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Aisa connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Ashton momentarily.
Ashton will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rick Ashton. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Aisa lands with an overhand left.
Aisa keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Aisa stuffs the takedown attempt from Ashton. Ashton gets slowly back to his feet.
Aisa looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

Ashton looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Aisa avoids a punch combination nicely.
Aisa swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Aisa swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Ashton throws a combination that misses
and Aisa cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Ashton avoids the head kick by Aisa.
Ashton appears to be looking for a big counter.
Aisa throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Aisa throws a lazy right hand but Ashton sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Aisa pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Ashton is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Ashton is rocked!
A right-left combo lands from Ashton.
Ashton staying out of range there.
Ashton fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Aisa avoids it really well and circles away.
Ashton takes one to the chin there.
Oh Ashton is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Aisa thows a left - swing and a miss!
Ashton seems to have got his legs back now.

Aisa looks to land a right hand but Ashton moved out of range.
Aisa might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Aisa sends Ashton crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Aisa is motioning to the referee to let Ashton up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!
Nice straight punches there by Ashton. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Ashton.
Aisa looks to throw the jab but Ashton is out of range.
Aisa misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Nice takedown defense from Aisa. No joy for Ashton on that attempt.
Aisa takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

and Aisa counters with a crisp right that sends Ashton to the canvas! Aisa follows up with punches from the mount and this one is all over!
