The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Francisco moves into the clinch successfully.

Francisco is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Smith is keeping busy. Smith tries for a takedown but Francisco manages to get underhooks.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Del Smith. That's going to take a lot out of him. Francisco is trying to break free. Francisco wants to get back to striking at distance but Smith won't allow it.

A head punch blocked on the inside by Smith. Francisco is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Francisco tries to break the clinch but Smith is controlling the position. Francisco lands a right hand that snaps the head of Smith backwards.
It looks like Del Smith has been cut. Francisco changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Smith fights it off and pushes away nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round. Nice takedown defense from Francisco. No joy for Smith on that attempt. Francisco rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Smith moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Smith appears to be looking for a big counter. Smith shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Francisco sprawls well. Francisco wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Smith gets slowly back to his feet. Francisco closes the distance and clinches. Francisco is trying desperately to improve position. Francisco is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Francisco is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Francisco is trying desperately to improve position. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Francisco can do anything to dispel that myth.

He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. You get the feeling that Francisco really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Francisco wants to hold on but Smith pushes him away. Francisco is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Smith cracks Francisco with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Francisco is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Smith locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Francisco is forced to tap!
