PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Eduardo Zapata (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Milton Cooper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Zapata might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Rage Against The Machine - Killing In The Name. Milton Cooper has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Eduardo Zapata!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Milton Cooper!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cooper tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Zapata manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Zapata closes the distance and clinches up with Cooper, looking for a takedown. Zapata pushes Cooper against the cage but Cooper circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
A bit of stalling here from Cooper.
Cooper unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Cooper is pressed up against the cage. Zapata has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Cooper down to the mat. Cooper avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Zapata tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Cooper swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Eduardo Zapata. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Zapata shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Cooper as he avoids it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cooper is looking to clinch.

Zapata dives in and scores a takedown into Cooper's guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Zapata accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
We've been hearing that Zapata has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Cooper is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Zapata is controlling him.

Zapata is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Cooper wants to stand up but Zapata is controlling him.

Cooper really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Zapata. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Zapata pushes down on Cooper's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Zapata is pressing down on Cooper's thigh, looking to free his foot. Cooper is holding on for now.

Zapata thows a huge punch but Cooper dodges it nicely.
Cooper is trying to stand.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Zapata is pressing down on Cooper's thigh, looking to free his foot. Cooper is holding on for now.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Cooper tries to clinch but Zapata moves out of range.

Zapata tries to keep at a distance but Cooper has taken the fight into the clinch.
Cooper tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Cooper misses with a knee to the head.
Zapata changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Cooper fights it off and pushes away nicely.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Cooper enables Zapata to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Cooper manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Zapata throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Cooper works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Zapata thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Zapata throws a big right hand that misses.
Zapata working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Zapata fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Cooper avoids it really well and circles away.

Zapata shoots for a double leg takedown but Cooper sprawls well. He's pushed Zapata's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Zapata looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Zapata tries to score a power double leg takedown but Cooper sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Zapata somewhat.
Cooper tries to counter with a clinch but Zapata shakes him off and moves away.
Cooper tries to close the distance and clinch up but Zapata swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Eduardo Zapata is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Zapata changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Cooper tries to avoid it but Zapata manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Cooper to the ground. Cooper escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Cooper is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Zapata is defended easily by Cooper.

Zapata feints and as Cooper raises his hands in defense, Zapata changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Cooper is looking to stand back up but Zapata counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Cooper.

Zapata looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Zapata is trying to work for a kimura but Cooper is defending well.

Cooper keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Zapata is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Cooper defends it well.
Cooper pushes Zapata off looking to stand but Zapata dives back in and keeps control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Eduardo Zapata will probably get the nod.

Cooper has momentary wrist control but Zapata slips an elbow through the middle.


Cooper is rocked!
Zapata postures up from his opponent's guard, before exploding into some vicious ground and pound! Cooper covers up, he's hurt! Zapata keeps throwing the strikes, glancing at the referee... Will he stop it?? One more big shot from Zapata and the ref steps in to end the fight! Zapata can't hide his delight as he celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:31 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Eduardo Zapata!
An out of breath Eduardo Zapata thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
