Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Monty Dean! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sean Spinhouse! The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Emerson Jorge and Luis Engracia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jab from Spinhouse.
It looks like Monty Dean has been cut. Spinhouse tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Dean was well out of range. Poor timing from Spinhouse. Spinhouse throws a right hand that Dean ducks under and follows up with a left that Dean also avoids with ease. Spinhouse scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Spinhouse in side control, throwing shots but Dean defends. Dean struggling a bit here. Spinhouse thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. A lull in the action here. Dean struggling a bit here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Spinhouse is trying to get an arm triangle but Dean is defending well. Spinhouse trying to control the action but Dean is working from the bottom. Dean avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Spinhouse.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Dean is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Dean being controlled for a moment. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Dean can't do much from the bottom here. Dean is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Spinhouse is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Spinhouse misses with a body shot
and Dean counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Dean walks into a stiff left hand from Spinhouse. Spinhouse closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Spinhouse tries to work over Dean's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Spinhouse leaning against his opponent.
Dean letting Spinhouse take a breather here. A frustrated look appears on Dean's face as he tries to break the clinch. Spinhouse pulls Dean into guard.
Spinhouse is looking to sweep but instead, Dean has passed into half guard.
Spinhouse trying to control but Dean postures up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Dean not landing any meaningful shots this time. Dean prevents Spinhouse from improving his position. Spinhouse manages to escape and get back to his feet! A head kick misses from Spinhouse. Spinhouse drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Spinhouse looks winded! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Dean pushes a forearm under Spinhouse's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Spinhouse is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
