PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Steven Walter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lewis Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lewis Lee told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 24 - 2, fighting out of London, Steven Walter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 6 - 2, fighting out of London, Lewis Lee!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Phil Schofield and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Walter shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Lee's guard.
Lee wants to stand up but Walter is controlling him.

Walter drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Lee manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Walter has Lee in his guard.
Walter is pulling down on Lee's head to control his posture.
Lee stopping the sweep attempt from Walter.
Lee wants to pass the guard but Walter is keeping the position.

Lee gets to his feet. Walter looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Lee shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Lee was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
What's Walter going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.
Walter struggling a bit here.

Walter looks to move to half guard but instead Lee has passed into mount! Damn!
Walter can't escape the position.
Lee controlling the position easily from mount.
Walter is looking to improve his position but Lee isn't that keen on the idea.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Lee avoids the attempt from Walter to control.
Walter keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Walter wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Walter is in bad spot here.
Lee biding his time, looking for the opening.
Walter rolls, trying to escape but Lee keeps control of the position.
Walter trying to control the action but Lee just sinks the hooks in.

Walter wants to improve his position but Lee is controlling well.
Lee is thwarting Walter's attempts to control the position.
Walter is looking for a sweep. Lee is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Walter is working hard here to advance position.
Walter is holding on to half guard well.
Lee seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Walter tries to get to full guard but Lee has control of the leg.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lewis Lee dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Walter tries to clinch there but Lee circles away.
Lee unleashes a big counter combination but Walter bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Walter changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lee tries to avoid it but Walter manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lee to the ground. Lee escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Lee tries to counter by closing the distance.
Walter goes for a double leg but Lee avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Lee continues to drive forward.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Walter.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Steven Walter. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Walter manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Lee on his heels. He'll look to pass Lee's guard now, I'm sure.
Lee wants to stand and escape but Walter is having none of it.

Walter drops back, looking for a kneebar! Lee looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Lee looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Lee!

Lee tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Lee decides to stand back up.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Walter is defended easily by Lee.
Lee defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Walter.
Lee unleashes a big counter combination but Walter bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Walter shoots in but no luck this time.
Walter tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Lee manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Lee tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Walter throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Lee's waist but Lee gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Walter off to one side.

and Lee counters with a left and a right that stings Walter.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Walter misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Lee drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Walter defends it well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Walter shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Lee defends it nicely.
Walter tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Lee defends well and Walter ends up having to push Lee into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Lee changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Walter shoots in looking for a takedown but Lee manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Walter's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Lee lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Lee has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Walter is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Walter fails with a takedown attempt.
Walter sets himself, and Lee steps forward looking for the clinch! Walter avoids it this time.

Walter gets caught napping as Lee dives in and scores a takedown. Walter manages to retain guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Lee stands up and waves to Walter to follow him.

Walter clinches with his opponent.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Lee is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Walter can't fight it off and eventually Lee manages to take the fight to the floor. Walter looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Lee stays in close to Walter's body and controls the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Walter tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Lee controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Walter wants to control the position but Lee says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Walter is controlling Lee's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Lee tries to stand but can't do so whilst Walter controls his leg.
Walter wants to get back to full guard.

Lewis Lee showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Walter tries to close the distance and clinch up but Lee swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Lee throws a head kick but Walter moves out of range.
Walter dives in and grabs Lee's left leg, looking for a takedown. Lee pushes down on Walter's head and hops out.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Walter drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Walter drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Lee dives on top into guard.
Lewis Lee has got the better of the ground game so far.
Walter tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Lee is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Lee slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Walter can't do much from the bottom here.

Lee gets his hands free as Walter looks to control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Lee has the hooks in. Walter is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Lee controlling the position well here. Walter rolled but Lee kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
Steven Walter has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Lewis Lee comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Lee winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
