Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Paulie Garrison! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ben Steller! The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Columbo Gatti and Chad Campbell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Garrison dives in and grabs Steller's left leg, looking for a takedown. Steller pushes down on Garrison's head and hops out. Garrison shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Garrison wants to control from the top but Steller keeps moving. Garrison looking to sit in guard and control but Steller gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Garrison escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Steller gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Steller got a little sloppy there for a moment and Garrison has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Steller has managed to get both his arms back between Garrison's legs - danger averted. Steller with a nice head shot there. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Garrison working for a triangle but Steller defends it easily.
Steller makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Garrison not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Garrison is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Steller trying to control the position from guard on top but Garrison is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Garrison is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Steller defends well. Garrison is breathing heavily. Garrison keeping moving, preventing Steller from controlling successfully. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Garrison working for submissions but it's allowed Steller to get to half guard.
Steller drops an elbow to the side of Garrison's head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Garrison on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Steller working Garrison over with strikes. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Steller connects with a nice short shot to Garrison's temple.
Garrison is rocked! Steller really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Garrison. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Steller scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Oh Garrison is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Steller lands a big elbow - Garrison is out of it! He's waving his arms around but his eyes are closed and he's not intelligently defending himself - the ref has no choice but to jump in and stop the fight! This one is in the books! A TKO win for Steller!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ben Steller!
