Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Ian Loll and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shemper closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
kontra tries to escape but Shemper is in control.
Shemper controlling from side mount.
kontra is not content to let Shemper control the position.
You can see the frustration on kontra's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Shemper is looking to take a break and control but kontra is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Shemper is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
kontra instigates a clinch.
kontra connects with a nasty looking knee right to Shemper's face.
Shemper tries to score a body lock takedown but kontra shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
kontra really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Shemper is trying to work for a single leg takedown but kontra pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Shemper jumps guard but kontra stands there with Shemper around his waist. Shemper gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
nick kontra has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steve Shemper.
Shemper tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. kontra smiles and moves away.
kontra clinches up against the cage.
kontra breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

and Shemper counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in kontra's guard now.

kontra pushes Shemper off looking to stand but Shemper dives back in and keeps control.
Shemper is stalling here. kontra is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Shemper seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and kontra has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Shemper tries to lock up and control but kontra gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

and Shemper counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for kontra!
Shemper goes for an armbar but he's not got it… kontra turns into him and now he's in Shemper's guard.

kontra will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Shemper is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! kontra is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! kontra has escaped and now he's on top!

Shemper wants to control the pace but kontra is squirming around nicely.

kontra is controlling an arm, preventing Shemper from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shemper moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, kontra has worked his arm free - good work by kontra!

kontra is trying to work for a kimura but Shemper is defending well.
Shemper is pressing down on kontra's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Shemper had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. kontra is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Shemper Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take kontra's back instead.

Shemper is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. kontra is defending well though. Shemper let's go of the attempt for now.

kontra manages to reverse the position and now he's in Shemper's guard. Nice work there by kontra.

Shemper shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in kontra's guard.

Shemper has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of kontra's face.

kontra tries to kick Shemper off in order to stand up. Shemper Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Shemper thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
kontra is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Shemper is controlling him well.

Shemper creates some space and throws a big elbow, but kontra sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Shemper remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
kontra is looking to clinch.
kontra misses with a head kick.
Shemper feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
