Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Arto Blomsten! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Cornelius Carr! The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Alyssa Summers and Jorge Garcia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Blomsten dips to his left and cracks Carr with an uppercut! Blomsten takes a jab right on the kisser.
Carr lands a glancing blow to the side of Blomsten's head. Blomsten throws a wild body kick that Carr sees coming a mile off. Carr is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Blomsten. Blomsten lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Blomsten on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Carr throws a lazy right hand but Blomsten sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Blomsten scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Carr doesn't seem bothered though. Blomsten scores with a slapping inside leg kick. Blomsten misses the shot to the body. And an attempted straight right on the counter from Carr! But no joy. Carr slips under a jab. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Nice uppercut there from Blomsten. Carr has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Blomsten. Blomsten rushes Carr and presses him up against the cage.

We've been hearing reports that Blomsten has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. Blomsten blocking some punches.
Carr gets underhooks to prevent Blomsten's takedown attempt.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Carr. Blomsten is trying to stall.

No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Carr is pulling down on Blomsten's head. It's preventing any offense from Blomsten, at least for the moment. Carr avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Blomsten has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Blomsten being controlled here momentarily.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Carr ducks under a wild hook from Blomsten. Carr throws out a counter right but Blomsten avoids it with no problem. A shot to the liver by Carr. Beautiful body shot. Carr ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Blomsten moves away. Carr clobbers Blomsten with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Blomsten thumps Carr with a low kick. Carr fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Blomsten manages to avoid it. Blomsten thinks about countering with a body kick. Blomsten moves out of range of the strikes. Blomsten connects with a nice looking jab.
Blomsten shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Carr is trying to hold Blomsten in close to prevent damage but Blomsten has managed to pass into half guard.
Carr is looking to control Blomsten's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Carr avoid being mounted?
That's four minutes gone in the round. Blomsten is looking for a kimura but Carr is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Blomsten to get the leverage. Blomsten seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Carr controlling the leg, holding on to half guard. Blomsten seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Carr does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Blomsten is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Carr sees it coming and defends easily. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Carr misses with an uppercut. Carr lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Blomsten at a distance.
Blomsten is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Carr can do to turn this around? A leg kick checked by Carr. Carr misses with a leg kick and Blomsten counters with a nice double leg into guard. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Carr is on top in guard.

That's one minute gone in the round. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Carr's corner is telling him to maintain position. Blomsten throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Carr is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Carr tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. Blomsten is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Blomsten gets back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Blomsten tries to get to full guard but Carr has control of the leg.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Blomsten chopping away at his opponent's legs.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Thud! ouch! good body kick from Blomsten - that will leave a mark!
Carr blocks a head kick by Blomsten.
Blomsten scores with the left hand. Carr knows he should have avoided that one. Carr tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Blomsten was well out of range. Poor timing from Carr. Carr misses with a hook. Blomsten ducked under it nicely. Carr bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Blomsten's head. Carr with a jab. Blomsten tries to land a front kick but Carr steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Blomsten lands with a shot to the body. Carr's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Blomsten connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Carr scrambles back to his feet. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Blomsten looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Carr is looking to improve his position.

Blomsten is looking to work some ground and pound but Carr has wrist control. Blomsten wants to control from the top but Carr keeps moving. Carr is trying to control the position but Blomsten postures up. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Carr throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Blomsten on the side of the head. Blomsten throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Carr scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Carr shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down. Blomsten avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Arto Blomsten overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Carr is trying to control the position from the bottom.

A big right from Blomsten misses. Carr let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land. Blomsten shoots for a takedown but Carr saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Carr tries to bum rush Blomsten with a series of wild strikes but Blomsten uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Carr keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Arto Blomsten. That's going to take a lot out of him. Blomsten drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. Carr misses with a hook. Blomsten ducked under it nicely. Carr looks to land a left hand but Blomsten moved out of range nicely. Blomsten feinted with a counter takedown. Blomsten checks a leg kick.

Blomsten misses with a low kick as Carr jumps back. Carr takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Blomsten pushes Carr away with a front kick. Blomsten pushing out the jab but it's not landing. A big left from Carr misses. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Carr rushes Blomsten and presses him up against the cage. Carr misses with a punch on the inside.
Blomsten throws a head punch that misses. Carr tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Carr goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Blomsten lands with a light punch inside. Carr lands a nice uppercut. Blomsten is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Carr gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Carr working some nice short punches in the clinch. Carr misses with a body punch.

Blomsten is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Carr can't fight it off and eventually Blomsten manages to take the fight to the floor. Carr looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Carr pushes Blomsten off and gets back to his feet.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Carr works Blomsten's body with a nice hook. Carr looks to land a right hand but Blomsten moved out of range. Blomsten tries to counter with a takedown but Carr is quick to defend against it. Carr throws a body shot but no joy. Carr misses the body punch and Blomsten makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. Carr connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Blomsten ducks under a wild hook from Carr. Blomsten drops down looking for a counter takedown but Carr sprawls and moves away. Carr throws a body punch but Blomsten moves out of range. Carr uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Cornelius Carr seems to be getting the better of the standup. Carr listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Blomsten throws a leg kick and Carr counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Blomsten with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.

Blomsten looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger. Carr thuds his right hand into Blomsten's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Carr throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Blomsten tries to counter with a takedown but Carr is quick to defend against it. Blomsten bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick. Blomsten clinches. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Blomsten can't find room to land a body shot as Carr controls the action.
Carr's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down. Blomsten lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards. Blomsten looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that. Carr prevents the takedown attempt.
Carr works on Blomsten's body with a couple of short punches. Carr lands a body punch in the clinch. Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - a gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.

Carr works on Blomsten's body with a couple of short punches. A nice right hand lands inside from Carr. Carr tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked. A short right hand to the side of the head by Carr. Carr lands a left hand.
Blomsten is rocked! Carr lands with a short shot to the head. Oh Blomsten is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Carr pushes Blomsten against the cage. Carr is working some dirty boxing. Carr pushes off with a quick right hook! Blomsten goes down! Blomsten tries to stand but stumbles back to his kness! Carr moves in to finish and the ref steps in to prevent any more damage!
