PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Evan Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Edgar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Frank Edgar was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Evan Brown!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Frank Edgar!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Reed Andrews and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Edgar has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Edgar there as he acknowledges the shot.
Brown stuffs the takedown.
Edgar on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Edgar should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Edgar feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Brown's calf.
Edgar shoots in looking for a takedown. Brown tries to sprawl out of it but Edgar keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Brown manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Edgar avoids a kick to the body.
Edgar moves out of range as Brown strikes.
Brown throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Brown lunges at Edgar with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Edgar's hand.
Edgar shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Brown but Brown pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Brown is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Brown is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Edgar drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Brown dives on top into guard.

Brown stands and steps away. Edgar gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

and Edgar holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Edgar is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Brown tries to break the clinch but Edgar is controlling the position.
Edgar jumps guard but Brown stands there with Edgar around his waist. Edgar gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Brown is pressed up against the cage. Edgar has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Brown down to the mat. Brown avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Edgar shoots in for a double leg but Brown sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Evan Brown seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Edgar has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Edgar moves forwards but Brown connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Edgar shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Brown as he avoids it easily.

Brown keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Edgar shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Brown's guard.
Edgar is pushing down on Brown's leg trying to pass to half guard. Brown is fighting to maintain full guard but Edgar has managed to sneak the leg through.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Brown is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Edgar is controlling him.
Edgar is working Brown over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

A close round but Frank Edgar will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Edgar throws a left and a right that both miss
and Brown counters with a stiff right hand.
Brown ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Edgar moves away.
Edgar fails to land with a series of punches.
Brown lands with a cross.
Brown misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Edgar throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Brown's waist but Brown gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Edgar off to one side.

and Edgar counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Brown!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Edgar prevents Brown from getting the reversal.
Brown is bucking up trying to escape but Edgar cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Edgar is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Brown is surviving well by controlling Edgar's body position as best he can.

Edgar breaks from Brown's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Edgar takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Frank Edgar showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Edgar seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Brown does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Edgar closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Brown manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Edgar is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Brown tries to stand but can't do so whilst Edgar controls his leg.

Edgar looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

and Edgar counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Brown's guard now.
Frank Edgar is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Edgar slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

And that's the end of the fight!
Frank Edgar comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Edgar winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
