Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Joe Canner! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Carlos Garcia ! The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Shigeki Sano and Shigeki Fujiwara.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Garcia feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Garcia chips away with some ground and pound. Canner is trying to control the position but Garcia postures up. Canner keeping moving, preventing Garcia from controlling successfully. Garcia trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Canner tries to land a sweep but no joy. Canner trying to keep a closed guard but Garcia is proving a slippery customer.
Garcia missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Garcia passes easily into side control. Nice work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Canner wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Garcia has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Garcia blocks a head kick by Canner.
That's one minute gone in the round. Canner shoots in looking for a takedown. Garcia tries to sprawl out of it but Canner keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Garcia manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Canner moves into the clinch. Garcia jumps into guard, dragging Canner to the mat.
Canner working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Garcia is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Garcia scrambles and gets back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Canner gets caught flat footed, as Garcia shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Garcia scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Canner looking to control.
Garcia must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Garcia working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Garcia wants to control from the top but Canner keeps moving. Garcia advances position into side control! Garcia lands some shots froms side control. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Canner takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Garcia lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Canner down.
Canner is being controlled here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Canner tries to improve position but can't. Canner is not content to let Garcia control the position. Garcia in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Garcia scoring with punches from side control.
Canner is rocked! Canner takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Oh Canner is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Garcia in side control here. He's dropped a big elbow there and Canner looks hurt! Oh, he is hurt! Garcia turns on the heat and pounds him out for a TKO victory! Good killer instinct there!
