PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Joe Blow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ken Shampoo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Joe Blow!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ken Shampoo!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Blow darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Blow content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Blow prevents Shampoo from improving his position.
Shampoo gets full guard.

Blow drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Blow jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Blow wants to control from the top but Shampoo keeps moving.

Shampoo isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Blow stacks Shampoo on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Blow!

Blow decides to stand up, so the ref orders Shampoo to his feet.
Shampoo gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Blow counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Blow tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Shampoo.

Shampoo works his way to full guard. Good work.
Shampoo keeping moving, preventing Blow from controlling successfully.

Shampoo working for a triangle but Blow defends it easily.
Shampoo is looking to stand up but Blow isn't so interested in that idea.
Shampoo manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Blow reaches up and holds on to Shampoo to control the position.

Blow tries to hold on but Shampoo postures up.

Shampoo is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Shampoo trying to mount his opponent but Blow defends it.
Blow is looking for a sweep. Shampoo is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Blow wants to control but Shampoo is keeping busy.
Blow slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Blow feints and as Shampoo raises his hands in defense, Blow changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Shampoo wants to sweep here but Blow controlling him for the moment.

Shampoo is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Shampoo has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Blow can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Blow wants to control from the top but Shampoo keeps moving.

Shampoo throws his legs up looking for a submission but Blow uses it to pass to side control.
Shampoo is trying to control Blow's posture but Blow avoids it.
Blow throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Blow passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Shampoo!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Blow can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Shampoo is looking to escape.

Blow stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Shampoo has his takedown stuffed

and Blow moves into the clinch.

Blow decides to pull guard.
Shampoo tries to free his leg and advance position but Blow is retaining full guard.

Shampoo postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Blow is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Shampoo, into his guard.

Blow works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Shampoo makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Shampoo.
Blow trying to control the position from guard on top but Shampoo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Blow throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Shampoo works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Shampoo is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Shampoo wants to sweep but no luck.
Blow not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Blow wants to control from the top but Shampoo keeps moving.
Shampoo keeping full guard, as Blow tries to pass.
Joe Blow overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Blow throws a strike but Shampoo rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Shampoo wants to control from the top but Blow keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Blow dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Shampoo misses with a takedown

and Blow counters with a takedown into side control.
Shampoo manages to work his way to half guard, despite Blow's best efforts.
Blow winds up and cracks Shampoo with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Blow not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Blow missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
It looks like Blow is going to stand back up.
Shampoo tries to get to full guard but Blow has control of the leg.

Shampoo has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Blow can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Ken Shampoo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Blow forces Shampoo back against the cage and clinches.
Shampoo is looking to break free of the clinch but Blow has double underhooks.
Shampoo fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Shampoo is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Blow gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Joe Blow has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ken Shampoo.

Blow breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Blow moves into full mount! Shampoo won't be happy about that!
Blow is trying to control here but Shampoo has managed to regain half guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Blow seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Shampoo does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Shampoo moves into full guard.
Shampoo wants to sweep here but Blow controlling him for the moment.

Shampoo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Blow gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Blow stands up from Shampoo's guard - Blow perhaps looking for a knockout.

And that's the end of the fight!
Joe Blow showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Blow has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
