Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joao Martell! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jordan Mcbride! The judges for this bout are George Francis, Stewart Dunkirk and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Martell looks to land a combination but Mcbride avoids it well. We've been told by Martell's head coaches at Beast Playground that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Martell, as that shot connected.
Martell swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Mcbride is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own. Martell fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Mcbride is looking for the big counter here. Martell really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Martell throws a combination that misses and Mcbride moves into the clinch. Mcbride breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Martell will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Mcbride feints the counter takedown. Martell misses with a double jab
so Mcbride counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Martell wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Mcbride manages to pass to side control. Mcbride stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
That's one minute gone in the round. Martell throws a nice looking combination but Mcbride bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Martell will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Martell misses with a series of wild punches.
Mcbride changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. A right-left combo lands from Martell. Mcbride slips a jab from Martell. As Martell backs off Mcbride throws a huge counter combo but Martell manages to avoid it all. Mcbride takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Martell throws a combination that misses and Mcbride counters by moving into the clinch. Mcbride is working Martell over against the cage. Martell is breathing heavily. Mcbride lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards. Martell is trying to break free. Mcbride escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Martell throws a left and a right that both miss
and Mcbride counters by clinching up. Mcbride breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. This has been an exciting period of action! Martell looks to land a combination but Mcbride avoids it well. Martell swinging wildly here.
Mcbride with the counter takedown but Martell avoids it easily. Martell throws an overhand right that lands on Mcbride's shoulder, as Mcbride tries to avoid the shot. Mcbride with the counter takedown but Martell avoids it easily. Nice defenses there by Martell. Martell throws a lazy head kick and Mcbride holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Martell is trying to break the clinch but Mcbride is controlling him. Mcbride tries to throw a body punch but Martell avoids it by throwing Mcbride back against the cage. A right hook to the body lands for Mcbride.
Mcbride scores with a shoulder strike. Mcbride lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mcbride turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Mcbride manages to end up in side control. Martell seems a little lost for a moment, as Mcbride dominates the positioning. Mcbride has hold of Martell's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Martell tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Mcbride cranks the arm and Martell screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Martell, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Jordan Mcbride!
