The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A momentary lapse in concentration from Berdich enables Christ to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Berdich manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Berdich looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Christ slips nicely into half guard. Christ is trying to work for a kimura but Berdich is defending well.
Christ is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Berdich doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Christ. Berdich is staying active underneath Christ, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Christ is pressing down on Berdich's thigh, looking to free his foot. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Christ stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Berdich swivels though and keeps the full guard. Berdich escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Christ gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Christ trying to control the position from guard on top but Berdich is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Berdich bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Christ's guard. Berdich tries to free his leg and advance position but Christ is retaining full guard.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Berdich scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Christ can't do much from the bottom here. Berdich throws an elbow but Christ slips to the side and avoids it well. Christ sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Christ slaps away a takedown attempt from Berdich, before circling back to the center of the mat. Christ tries to counter by clinching up but Berdich breaks away and moves out of range. Berdich shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Christ is trying to defend but Berdich finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
