Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
26 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Conan Drogo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
18 - 18 - 1, fighting out of New York, Clay Thomas! The judges for this bout are , Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Drogo throws a body kick that misses. Thomas moves out of range of the body kick from Drogo.
It seemed like Thomas was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Drogo throws a body kick, spinning off balance and Thomas counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Thomas. Drogo tries a body shot but Thomas blocks it.
Thomas blocks a body shot from Drogo. The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch. A left hand lands to the body for Drogo.
Drogo swings wildly with an uppercut but Thomas uses good head movement to avoid it. Drogo blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Drogo lands a hook to the side of the head. Drogo keeps control of Thomas as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Thomas is trying to force a seperation but Drogo has the dominant position. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Drogo. Drogo throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges. Drogo lands a body punch. Good body shot from Drogo.
Thomas misses with an elbow strike.
We've been hearing reports that Drogo has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
That's one minute gone in the round. Drogo breaks from the clinch.
Clay Thomas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Thomas throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Drogo moves into range and connects with a jab. Thomas tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Thomas wants to clinch but Drogo slips to the side and Drogo counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Drogo is taking a breather. Thomas says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Thomas trying to get back to full guard but Drogo takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount! Drogo controlling his opponent. Drogo thowing shots but they're missing. Thomas holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Drogo tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Thomas can't escape the position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Drogo throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage. Thomas tries to hold on but Drogo postures up. Thomas is working to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Drogo landing shots from mount. Drogo throws a wild left hand from mount and Thomas manages to wriggle his way back to half guard. Drogo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Drogo lands a nice short elbow. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Thomas can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Drogo is pressing down on Thomas's thigh, looking to free his foot. Thomas is holding on for now. Thomas keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Thomas avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Drogo. Drogo lands with a punch from half guard. Drogo throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Thomas to regain full guard. Drogo wants to control from the top but Thomas keeps moving. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Drogo accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Drogo throwing strikes from guard but Thomas blocks nicely.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Drogo showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Thomas is pulling down on Drogo's head to control his posture. Thomas looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Drogo puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Drogo stops Thomas from getting back to his feet.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Thomas is on top in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Conan Drogo dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
Thomas misses with a double jab.
Drogo connects with a high kick. A combination from Thomas does no damage. Thomas throws a jab but it's blocked by Drogo. Drogo throws a jab but it's blocked by Thomas. Drogo misses the jab. Thomas uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Drogo swats away the attempt to clinch by Thomas. Drogo connects with a leg kick. Thomas looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it. Drogo lands with a right hand. A jab from Drogo misses. Thomas throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. That kick from Drogo tenderised Thomas's leg. Thomas is trying to keep his angry face on. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Thomas swings for the body but Drogo moves out of range.
Drogo has managed to clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Drogo lands with a light punch inside. Stalling in the clinch from Thomas.
Thomas wants to break free but Drogo has control.
Thomas pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Drogo closes this distance looking for a takedown but Thomas circles away. Drogo fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Thomas manages to avoid it. Thomas swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Thomas tries to land a front kick but Drogo steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Drogo lands a nice hook to Thomas's body. Thomas takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Drogo knocks Thomas to the floor with a head kick! Can he finish him!?
Thomas is rocked!
It looks like Clay Thomas has been cut. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Drogo lands a big elbow and you can see that really hurt Thomas! Drogo senses the opportunity and scores with more strikes - he's put Thomas out! The ref tackles him out of the way to prevent him landing more strikes - this one is all over!
