Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Filipe Acosta (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ronald Griffin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Acosta comes into the arena with Saw Theme blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Filipe Acosta! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ronald Griffin! The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Lou da Vinci and John Roberts.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Acosta shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Griffin is trying to defend but Acosta finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Acosta misses with a head shot. Griffin uses the momentum to regain guard. Acosta postures up in Griffin's guard and throws a big left but Griffin blocks it. Acosta postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Acosta postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Acosta throwing strikes but missing. Acosta has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Acosta wants to pass the guard but Griffin is keeping the position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Griffin is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Acosta is controlling him. Now he's in guard on top. Griffin wanted to stand there but Acosta had control of the position. Griffin preventing the sweep. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Griffin wants to stand but Acosta is controlling his posture from full guard. Acosta tries to land a sweep but no joy. Acosta wants to control but Griffin passes easily into half guard.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Griffin closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Acosta did well to prevent Griffin getting side control. Acosta is looking to get back to is feet but Griffin passes into side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Griffin wants to stand but Acosta has his arm trapped. Acosta tries to improve position but can't. Griffin tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily. Acosta looking for a sweep but Griffin has passed into full mount! Oh no!

We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Acosta tries to get out of the position. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Griffin manages to capitalize on a mistake by Acosta to take his back! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Acosta is looking to clinch. Griffin closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Acosta tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops. So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

That's one minute gone in the round. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Griffin controls the action. Griffin is hanging on to Acosta's back as he tries to escape.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. What's going on here? Griffin has decided to give up on the ground game despite having his opponent's back!
Griffin feints and as Acosta raises his hands in defense, Griffin changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Acosta wants to get back to his feet but Griffin passes into half guard.
Griffin has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Acosta is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. My spies in Holding Cell inform me that Griffin has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Griffin drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Acosta bucks up and tries to throw Griffin off but instead Griffin has got his back! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ronald Griffin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Acosta's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!
Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Griffin will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Griffin fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Acosta defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Griffin. Filipe Acosta has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ronald Griffin. Griffin gets caught napping as Acosta dives in and scores a takedown. Griffin manages to retain guard. Griffin manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage. A head punch on the inside from Acosta fails to land. Griffin tries for a takedown. No joy.
Acosta has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Griffin is trying to keep an underhook but Acosta manages to get the takedown into half guard. Griffin is looking to escape. Acosta with the ground and pound but Griffin uses the opportunity to regain guard. Griffin preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Acosta won't allow Griffin to get back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Acosta missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Acosta throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Acosta working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Griffin's head. Griffin preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Acosta with a flurry of punches that miss. Acosta stops Griffin from standing up. Acosta throws an elbow that misses. Griffin uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Acosta's guard. Nice move by Griffin! Acosta not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Griffin has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Acosta is proving hard to escape from. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Griffin being controlled here momentarily.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Acosta misses with a head shot. Griffin uses the momentum to regain guard. Acosta throws an elbow that misses. Griffin uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Acosta's guard. Nice move by Griffin! Acosta will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

And that's the end of the fight! Filipe Acosta showed his dominance in that final round. Well Acosta has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
