PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mike Nuts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Vegas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vegas has chosen Ace Of Spades by Motorhead as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mike Nuts!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Johnny Vegas!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Jonathan Paton and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nuts dodges the punch combination from Vegas.
Nuts wants to clinch up but Vegas keeps it at a distance.
Vegas showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Nuts.
Left hook, right uppercut from Vegas.
Nuts definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Vegas fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Nuts appears to be looking for a big counter.
Vegas has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Nuts thuds a left hand into Vegas's body.
Horrible takedown attempt by Nuts or perhaps it was just good defense by Vegas, which made it look bad.
Vegas moves forwards but Nuts connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Nuts fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Nuts ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Vegas moves away.
Nuts fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Vegas looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Nuts feints a jab promting Vegas to slip. Nuts then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Vegas slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Johnny Vegas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Nuts counters with a left and a right that stings Vegas.
Nuts throws a leg kick which misses Vegas's front leg but catches the back leg as Vegas tries to avoid it.

No joy there for Vegas, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Nuts looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Vegas unleashes a big counter combination but Nuts bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

Nuts shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Vegas as he avoids it easily.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Vegas has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Nuts regains guard immediately.
Nuts can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Vegas controls the pace.

Vegas prevents Nuts from getting back to his feet.
Vegas connects with a couple of short punches.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vegas looking to pass the guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Nuts is looking to stand up but Vegas isn't so interested in that idea.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Nuts finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Vegas misses with a two punch combination.
Vegas throws a wild body kick that Nuts sees coming a mile off.
Nuts half committed to a counter leg kick.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Nuts shoots in but no luck this time.
Nuts throws a body shot but no joy.
Vegas throws a right and a left that both miss.
Nuts shoots in for a takedown but Vegas shows good takedown defense.
Vegas swats away the attempt to clinch by Nuts.

Vegas has Nuts pressed against the cage, preventing Nuts from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Still in the clinch, Vegas scores with a nice short uppercut.

Nuts is looking to wear down Vegas with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Nuts uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Vegas.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Vegas lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Nuts circles away quickly and effectively.

Vegas is trying to pull guard but Nuts turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Vegas escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Vegas connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Vegas throws a head kick but Nuts moves out of range.
It looked like Nuts was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Vegas.

Nuts gets tackled into the cage by Vegas. Vegas maintains the clinch.
Vegas has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Nuts avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Vegas obliges.
Nuts really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Vegas breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Nuts tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Vegas swivels and escapes.

Johnny Vegas comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Vegas has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
