Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
19 - 30 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Johnny Bedford! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
19 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Isaiah Ferguson! The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Stewart Dunkirk and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bedford shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Bedford looking to sit in guard and control but Ferguson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Bedford not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Ferguson drops back, looking for a kneebar! Bedford looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Bedford looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Bedford! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Bedford swings around for an armbar but Ferguson sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Bedford's guard. Ferguson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ferguson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Bedford scrambles and gets back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ferguson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Bedford tries to avoid it but Ferguson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Bedford to the ground. Bedford escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. No luck with that takedown attempt from Ferguson. Ferguson shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Johnny Bedford has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Isaiah Ferguson. Ferguson has his takedown stuffed and Bedford counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ferguson tries to pull guard but Bedford won't allow it.
Bedford breaks from the clinch.
Ferguson shoots for a takedown but Bedford saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Ferguson blocks a head kick by Bedford.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Ferguson. Ferguson shoots and misses and Bedford counters by moving into the clinch. Bedford gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Ferguson regains guard.
Bedford looking to improve position, pressing down on Ferguson's thigh with his hand. Ferguson seems to be working to lock up a guilotine though... is Bedford paying attention? Apparently not! He's locked it up tight! Bedford's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Ferguson picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!
