PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Texas Pete (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Durham (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Durham has chosen Fresh Like Us as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Texas Pete!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Joe Durham!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Chris Edwards and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pete misses with a body shot.
Durham sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Pete takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Pete throws a push kick but Durham slaps the foot to one side.
Durham with the counter takedown but Pete avoids it easily.
Durham lands a right hook to the body.
Durham throws a poor cross that misses
letting Pete counter with a right hand.


It looks like Joe Durham has been cut.
Pete lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Pete scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Pete definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Pete swings and misses with a hook to the body.
A combination from Durham does no damage.
Durham swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Pete with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Durham throws a sloppy body shot
and Pete counters with a solid body kick.

A jab from Pete misses.
Durham is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
A solid leg kick lands there for Pete.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Durham has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Pete's jab looks to have found its range, popping Durham under the eye.
Pete throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Pete lands with a slapping head kick.
Texas Pete is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Durham lands a jab to Pete's midsection.
Pete lands a nice shot to the body.

Durham closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Durham looks winded!
Pete is looking for a sweep. Durham is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Durham not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Pete is defending against the submission attempts here by Durham.

Durham looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Durham trying to control from half guard but Pete is working away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pete is controlling Durham's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Pete on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Pete tries to get out of the position.
Durham thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Pete's head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Durham throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Durham is looking to take a break and control but Pete is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Durham misses with a wild body shot.
Durham misses the shot to the body.
Pete looks to land a body kick but Durham moved away.
Durham moves out of range of the body kick.
Durham misses with a double jab.
Durham waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Pete.
Pete is looking to counter with a body kick.
Horrible takedown attempt by Durham or perhaps it was just good defense by Pete, which made it look bad.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Durham.
And Pete counters with a quick kick to the body but Durham blocks it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Pete throws a leg kick which misses Durham's front leg but catches the back leg as Durham tries to avoid it.
Pete lands with a cross.
Pete throws a front kick that sends Durham stumbling back into the cage.
Durham fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Durham is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Pete rather than just go for the knockout.
Pete thuds his right hand into Durham's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Durham misses with a combination
and Pete counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Durham takes one to the side of the head.
Pete uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.


Durham is rocked!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Texas Pete dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Joe Durham's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Pete lands with a nice body punch.
Durham blocks a head kick by Pete.
Pete pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Durham fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Pete avoids it really well and circles away.
Durham on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pete stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Pete wants it to stay on the feet.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Durham.
Texas Pete has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Durham.

Durham avoids the body shot from Pete.
Nice body kick from Pete.
Pete lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Nice uppercut there from Pete.
Durham is still on wobbly legs! Can Pete finish him?
Pete ducks under a wild hook from Durham.
Durham seems to have recovered his senses.
Pete explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Durham is breathing heavily.
Pete ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Pete connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
A nice inside leg kick there by Pete. That's going to slow Durham down.
No luck for Durham with that takedown attempt.

Pete throws a body shot but no joy.
Today's fight clock is brought to you by... OOOH that's a huge shot by Pete! Durham is in big trouble here - the ref steps in to save him and this one is all over!

A victorious Texas Pete thanked his army of followers in his post fight interview, telling people to make sure they follow him on Twitter.
The defeated Joe Durham had this to say: 'Man I felt we had the right gameplan to achieve the victory here tonight but I guess we didn't... but I say I will be back fighting for the champion again and face that man again...hats off to him though for the victory'.
