Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
61 - 29 - 0, fighting out of New York, Athan Stamatis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
40 - 31 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Scott Morgan! The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Ivan Kurochkin and Viktor Lagutenko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! No joy there for Stamatis, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
A little jabbing left from Morgan on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. Morgan throws a body punch but Stamatis moves out of range. Stamatis lands a nice shot to the body.
Stamatis throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Stamatis with a jab. Stamatis closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Morgan to the mat! Morgan manages to get full guard. Stamatis won't allow Morgan to get back to his feet. Stamatis with a nice head shot there. Stamatis stays in close to Morgan's body and controls the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stamatis slips nicely into half guard. Stamatis is taking a breather. Morgan says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Stamatis winds up and cracks Morgan with a swinging punch to the side of the head. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Stamatis has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Stamatis throws a strike but Morgan avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Stamatis is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Stamatis trying to control the position from guard on top but Morgan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Morgan can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Stamatis controls the pace.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Morgan is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Stamatis. Stamatis fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Stamatis connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Stamatis scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Good standup being displayed there by Stamatis as he connects with a hook.
Morgan is rocked! Crack! A monster head kick from Stamatis and Morgan falls like a tree - timbeeeeeeeeeeerrrr! A highlight reel knockout by Stamatis!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:12 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Athan Stamatis! Athan Stamatis decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
