PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sascha Bergmann (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ratko Malich (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sascha Bergmann!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ratko Malich!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Dmitry Maklakov and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bergmann clinches up with Malich and pushes him back against the cage.

Bergmann manages to break the clinch.
A jab lands there for Bergmann.
Bergmann shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Malich sprawls well. Malich wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Bergmann gets slowly back to his feet.
Malich on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bergmann rushes Malich and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Bergmann manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Bergmann escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Malich gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Bergmann lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Bergmann is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Malich is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Malich has escaped and now he's on top!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bergmann seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Bergmann is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
My spies in The Grind - $500 inform me that Malich has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Bergmann wants to hit a switch here but Malich passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Bergmann there!
Bergmann is in all sorts of trouble here.
Bergmann knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Malich on the ground.

Malich is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Bergmann is surviving well by controlling Malich's body position as best he can.

Malich working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

Malich working for a submission but Bergmann is keeping him at bay.
Bergmann takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Malich has hold of Bergmann's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Bergmann manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bergmann tries to reverse the position but Malich maintains control.

Bergmann wants to hold on but Malich pushes him away.
Bergmann is in a horrible position here. Malich smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Bergmann tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Malich with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Bergmann is wriggling around trying to escape.
Bergmann is breathing heavily.
Bergmann wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Bergmann is trying to escape the mount.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Malich looking to control but Bergmann is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ratko Malich dominated that round.
That's time! Bergmann's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Malich connects with a nice short shot to Bergmann's temple.

Bergmann is refusing to be controlled, as Malich sits in half guard.

Bergmann keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Malich is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Malich prevents Bergmann from standing back up.

Malich is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Malich wants to work for an arm triangle but Bergmann is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Malich is trying to control the action in half guard but Bergmann is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Malich wants to take a breather but Bergmann is having none of it.

Malich is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Bergmann is just riding it out for now. Malich eventually gives up the hold.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Malich is breathing heavily.

Malich seems to be working for a kimura but Bergmann defends the submission attempt.
Malich prevents Bergmann from improving his position.
Malich uses his free foot to push down on Bergmann's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Bergmann.
Ratko Malich has got the better of the ground game so far.

Malich looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Malich throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Bergmann has his hands clasped together but Malich breaks the hold and Bergmann is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Malich!

Ratko Malich decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
