Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Stephan Bergmann! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Tom Hess! The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Illya Tyunina and Aleksandr Martynov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bergmann misses with a wild body shot. Hess fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Bergmann closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Hess did well to prevent Bergmann getting side control. Hess looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Hess is looking for a sweep. Bergmann is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hess looking for submissions off his back. Hess is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Bergmann pulls his head out easily. Bergmann trying to control from half guard but Hess is working away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hess is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Bergmann looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Hess with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Hess has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it. Hess is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Bergmann pulls his head out easily. Bergmann trying to mount his opponent but Hess defends it. Hess looking for submissions off his back. Bergmann wants to control but Hess is keeping him busy. Hess is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Bergmann's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Bergmann's back! Hess is hanging on to Bergmann's back as he tries to escape.
Bergmann just trying to survive but Hess is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hess working for the choke. Hess is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Bergmann tries to break free.
Bergmann looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment. Hess tightening his grip on Bergmann, looking for the choke. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Hess is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Bergmann is defending well though. Hess let's go of the attempt for now. Hess should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hess is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Bergmann defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined. Bergmann is trying to break free.
Hess avoiding Bergmann 's attempts to control his hands. Hess is working the back position looking for the choke. Oh, he's slid into an armbar! Beautiful transition and Bergmann taps out! Fantastic Jiu Jitsu from Hess.
