PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dan Brock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kobe Kage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brock comes into the arena with Here comes the boom blaring out of the sound system. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Dan Brock!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Kobe Kage!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Michael Johnstone and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kage waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Brock.
Brock throws a leg kick but Kage sees it coming and moves out of range.

Brock darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Kage is trying to get back to full guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Brock in particular looking to stall.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kage is staying active underneath Brock, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The fighters are battling for position here. Kage manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Brock controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Brock trying to control but Kage is working from the bottom.

Brock wants to pass the guard but Kage is keeping the position.
Kage wants to sweep here but Brock controlling him for the moment.
Brock tries to free his leg and advance position but Kage is retaining full guard.

Kage is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Kage wants to improve his position but instead Brock has moved into half guard.
Brock is looking to take a break and control but Kage is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Brock tries to pass to full mount but Kage defends it.

Brock is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Brock trying to control the action but Kage is working from the bottom.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Kage makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Kage.
Brock looking to pass the guard.
Kage is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Kage looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kage is trying to control the position but Brock postures up.
Kage really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Brock. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Brock wants to control from the top but Kage keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
No joy there for Kage, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Brock tries to land a leg kick but Kage saw it coming and moves away.
Brock blocks a jab.
Kage steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Brock.
A countering left hand to the body from Kage misses.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Kage.
Brock tries to buck Kage off but Kage is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Brock manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Kage wants to improve his position but Brock is controlling well.
Kage is not content to let Brock control the position.
Brock tries to pass to full mount but Kage defends it.
Kage slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Kage wants to sweep but no luck.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kage keeps trying to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Dan Brock will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


A swing and a miss from Kage.
Kage throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Brock sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Kage misses the jab.
Brock half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Brock rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Kage counters with a nice body shot.

Brock looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Kage!
Brock wants to control but Kage is keeping him busy.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kage desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Kage is looking to improve his position.

Brock is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Kage tries to get to full guard but Brock has control of the leg.
Kage wants to control but Brock is keeping busy.
Brock trying to pass the guard but Kage defending well.
Brock content to control rather than advance.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Brock misses with a wild body shot.
Brock misses with a kick to the body.
Kage throws out a counter right but Brock avoids it with no problem.
Brock thuds his shin into the meat of Kage's side.

Brock is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Kage's half guard.
Kage wants to improve his position but Brock is controlling well.
Dan Brock overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Brock is working for a submission of some sort.

Kage works his way to full guard. Good work.
Brock won't allow Kage to sweep him here.
Brock is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kage can do to turn this around?

Kage throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Kage is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Brock rolls with it to try and escape but Kage cranks on the arm and Brock is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
