Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Sergio Powell! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Grigor Georgiev! The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Arvi Lind and Ben Zyskovitsi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Georgiev jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Georgiev closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Powell's guard. Georgiev is standing up over Powell. Powell looks to escape but Georgiev dives into side control.
Powell really is a fat lump. Georgiev lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Powell is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Georgiev off and has taken his back! Powell controlling well, preventing Georgiev from escaping the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Georgiev prevents Powell from getting a body triangle. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Powell is trying to control but Georgiev is trying to escape here - he's now mounted.
Georgiev is trying desperately to improve position. Powell sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it! Powell is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Georgiev has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Powell pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Powell punching from mount but Georgiev doing a good job of avoiding damage. Powell unloads with some shots from mount but Georgiev bucks and avoids them well.
Powell has hold of Georgiev's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Georgiev manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Georgiev is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Powell landing punches. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Georgiev regains half guard. Georgiev pushes Powell off looking to stand but Powell dives back in and keeps control.
Georgiev is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Powell pulls his head out easily. Powell content to control rather than advance. Powell tries to stand but his arm is trapped. Georgiev regains full guard. Nicely done.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Georgiev uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Georgiev instigates a clinch. Georgiev is trying to break the clinch but Powell has him pressed against the cage. Powell working hard to break the clinch. Powell jumps guard but Georgiev stands there with Powell around his waist. Powell gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Georgiev blocks an elbow strike from Powell.
Powell looking to slow down the pace here. Georgiev is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Powell tries to pull guard but Georgiev holds him up against the cage and eventually Powell drops back down to his feet.
A body shot lands from Georgiev.
Georgiev has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Powell regains guard immediately. Georgiev's corner is telling him to maintain position. Georgiev stands up over Powell, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Georgiev controlling from the top position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Powell tries to land a sweep but no joy. Georgiev stands up and waves to Powell to follow him. Oooooh!!! Georgiev has knocked Powell down with a huge combo! Georgiev steps away and waves a wobbly Powell back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
It looks like Sergio Powell has been cut. This has been an exciting period of action! Georgiev bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Georgiev shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Georgiev looking to pass the guard. Georgiev won't allow Powell to get back to his feet. Powell working a defensive guard here.
Powell might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Georgiev seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Powell trying to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Georgiev stopping the sweep attempt from Powell.
That's one minute gone in the round. Georgiev drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Georgiev jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Georgiev controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Nice uppercut there from Georgiev. Powell checks a leg kick. Georgiev takes the fight into the clinch. Powell throws an elbow that misses.
Powell is trying to break free. Georgiev gets a nice trip takedown into half guard. Georgiev is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Grigor Georgiev has got the better of the ground game so far. Georgiev perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Georgiev working over Powell with some ground and pound. Powell looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Georgiev stops Powell from getting back to his feet.
Georgiev seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Georgiev has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Georgiev lands with a punch from half guard. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Georgiev in particular looking to stall. The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Georgiev. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man. Georgiev is looking for a kimura here.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Georgiev is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Grigor Georgiev showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Sergio Powell's cut. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!
A punch combination from Georgiev misses. Powell seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter. Georgiev throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Powell. Powell gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Georgiev to score an easy takedown into full guard. Georgiev won't allow Powell to get back to his feet. Georgiev decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Powell, up you get! We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Georgiev closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Powell to the mat! Powell manages to get full guard. Powell pushes Georgiev off and gets back to his feet.

Georgiev bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Powell is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Powell bucks up and tries to throw Georgiev off but instead Georgiev has got his back!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Georgiev is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Powell is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet. Powell tries to escape but Georgiev has the hooks in and won't let him break free. Georgiev is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Powell up.
Georgiev has Powell flattened out and is raining down punches. Powell is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Georgiev gets his way!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Georgiev is cranking Powell's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Powell! He's tightened the choke and Powell is tapping out!
