Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Byron Benjamin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Keith Thornton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Byron Benjamin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Keith Thornton! The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Gregory Folan and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Thornton shoots in but Benjamin avoids the takedown attempt easily. Thornton shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Benjamin is trying to defend but Thornton finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Thornton lands a nice short elbow. Thornton not landing any meaningful shots this time. Benjamin wants to get back to his feet.
Thornton working over Benjamin with some ground and pound. Benjamin looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Benjamin is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Thornton scores with a couple of nice shots. Thornton has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Thornton prevents Benjamin from standing back up.

That's one minute gone in the round. Thornton throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Benjamin knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Thornton on the ground. Thornton working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Thornton is working for a kimura but Benjamin is defending it quite comfortably.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Thornton connects with a nice short shot to Benjamin's temple. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Thornton is nestled in close to Benjamin, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Benjamin taking some punishment here, with Thornton in his half guard. Thornton scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Benjamin is rocked! Thornton lands a massive shot from half guard that has rocked Benjamin! More strikes land and this one is all over! Thornton jumps to his feet and is applauded loudly by the crowd!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Keith Thornton! Keith Thornton decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
