PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between James McKenna (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Drew Petrie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McKenna comes to the cage accompanied by scotland the brave. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Drew Petrie was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, James McKenna!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Drew Petrie!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Chris Saunders and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Petrie tries to bum rush McKenna with a series of wild strikes but McKenna uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Petrie bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps McKenna's head backwards.
McKenna showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Petrie.
McKenna feinted with a counter takedown.
McKenna moves out of range as Petrie strikes.
As Petrie looks to move away, McKenna throws a big counter combo bu Petrie just gets out of the way.
A nice combination there by Petrie.
Petrie stuffs the takedown attempt from McKenna. McKenna gets slowly back to his feet.
McKenna looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Petrie is fending him off so far but McKenna persists. Nope, Petrie circles away and we're back to standing.
Petrie is looking for the big counter here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Petrie lands a nice looking body shot.
Nice straight punches there by Petrie. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Petrie.
Petrie clobbers McKenna with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Petrie throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Petrie misses with a wild combination.
McKenna half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Drew Petrie is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Nice sprawl there from Petrie as McKenna shoots in.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James McKenna. That's going to take a lot out of him.
McKenna slips under a jab from Petrie.
Petrie throws a combination that misses

and McKenna counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

McKenna is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
McKenna trying to pass the guard but Petrie defending well.
Petrie really doesn't want to stay on the ground with McKenna. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
McKenna is trying to control the action in half guard but Petrie is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

McKenna is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Petrie is defending against the submission attempts here by McKenna.

McKenna is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Petrie has managed to free his arm - good work.
McKenna is trying to control. Petrie wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

McKenna is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Petrie is just riding it out for now. McKenna eventually gives up the hold.
McKenna wants to lay and pray for a moment but Petrie keeps working.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Petrie is trying to control but can't.
McKenna wants to control but Petrie is keeping him busy.

McKenna has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Petrie defend it? McKenna steps over the head and cranks it - Petrie is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for McKenna!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:43 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). James McKenna!
Our winner, James McKenna, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
