The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shaw has taken the fight to the clinch.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Church.
Shaw misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Church.

Church has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Shaw uses from the top position.
Church looking to hit a scissor sweep but Shaw is one step ahead there.
Shaw missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Shaw tries to free his leg and advance position but Church is retaining full guard.
Shaw not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Church wants to control the position but Shaw says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Shaw is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Church tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Shaw has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Shaw looking to finish Church with some ground and pound. This is bad for Church!

Shaw cracks Church with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!

After the fight, Deshawn Shaw was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
