The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Karelin wants to clinch.
Smoker swats away the attempt to clinch by Karelin.

Smoker closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Smoker tries for a kimura but Karelin is defending well.
Smoker working the ground and pound but Karelin is defending the strikes.
Sloppy strikes there by Smoker.
Smoker has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Smoker misses with the ground and pound.
Karelin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smoker. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Smoker thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Karelin wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Karelin takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Smoker is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Karelin has escaped the position, nice work there.

Smoker is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Karelin is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Smoker is breathing heavily.
Karelin tries to escape but Smoker is in control.
Karelin is not content to let Smoker control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Smoker fails to land a wild elbow strike.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Karelin can do anything to dispel that myth.
Karelin regains half guard, as Smoker was trying to land strikes.
Smoker wants to pass the guard but Karelin is defending well.
Karelin is trying to stand back up but Smoker is controlling him

Smoker is looking for a kimura here.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Karelin looks to land a left hand but Smoker moved out of range nicely.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Karelin clinches with his opponent.
Karelin softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
Karelin pushes Smoker back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Karelin lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Karelin lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Smoker tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Karelin smiles and moves away.
Smoker fails with the takedown.
The fight stays on the outside here - Karelin looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Smoker circles away from the clinch attempt.
Karelin is looking to clinch.
Smoker misses with a wild combination.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Smoker keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Karelin.
Karelin wants to clinch up but Smoker keeps it at a distance.

Karelin has taken the fight to the clinch.
Karelin makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Smoker jumps guard but Karelin stands there with Smoker around his waist. Smoker gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lex Smoker. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Karelin lands a right hand.
Karelin lands an uppercut.
Karelin throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Smokers head.
Karelin pushes Smoker back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.


Smoker is rocked!
Karelin throws a head punch that misses.
Oh Smoker is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Karelin gets through Smoker's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Karelin lands a right hand.
Karelin lands with a light punch inside.
Karelin misses with a punch on the inside.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Smoker.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Lex Smoker will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Karelin moves into the clinch successfully.
Karelin swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Karelin misses with a hook from the clinch.
Smoker tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Karelin lands with a light punch inside.
Karelin lands a shot to the body.
Karelin lands a shoulder strike.
Karelin misses with some punches.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Smoker.
Karelin makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Karelin.
Karelin lands a big right hand that drops Smoker! The killer instinct kicks in and Karelin finishes his opponent with a series of strikes from mount. A dominating finish by Karelin!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Alexander Karelin!
