Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Doug Mccormick! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Carlos Xavier! The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Anni Minnemäki and Johanna Lukiainen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Xavier manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Mccormick on his heels. He'll look to pass Mccormick's guard now, I'm sure. Mccormick wriggles free and stands up. Mccormick gets a double leg takedown into Xavier's guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mccormick working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Xavier wants to stand and escape but Mccormick is having none of it. Xavier has his feet on Mccormick's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Xavier shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Xavier winds up and cracks Mccormick with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Xavier winds up and cracks Mccormick with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Mccormick keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Xavier working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Xavier throws a strike but Mccormick avoids it easily and moves to full guard. Mccormick will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Mccormick throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Xavier really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mccormick. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Xavier stands and throws Mccormick's legs to the side, diving into side control. Xavier wants to control but Mccormick is keeping him busy. Xavier in side control lands a decent elbow.
Mccormick is rocked!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Xavier is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Mccormick has escaped the position, nice work there. Oh Mccormick is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Xavier lands a few punches from side control. Xavier lands a strong strike to the head of Mccormick. That's dazed him! Xavier looking to finish here. Mccormick is waving his arms around trying to block but he's hurt badly - Xavier lands more strikes and the referee steps in to end the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Carlos Xavier!
