Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Xavier Bishop (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rich Junior (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Bishop might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to KRS-One - MC's Act Like They Don't Know. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rich Junior!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Micheangelo Fripello and Roger Salmon.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Junior gets a takedown into half guard.
Junior is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Bishop is looking to control Junior's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Bishop avoid being mounted?
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Junior is looking to take a break and control but Bishop is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Junior seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Bishop does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Junior ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Bishop moves away.

Junior fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Bishop avoids it really well and circles away.
Junior tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bishop sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Junior somewhat.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Junior has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Bishop regains guard immediately.
Junior is fighting to break Bishop's control of his arms but Bishop is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Bishop is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Bishop has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Junior is looking to work some ground and pound but Bishop has wrist control.

As Junior looks to move away, Bishop throws a big counter combo bu Junior just gets out of the way.
Junior closes the distance and clinches up with Bishop, looking for a takedown. Junior pushes Bishop against the cage but Bishop circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Junior misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Bishop avoids a punch combination nicely.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Junior throws out a leg kick but Bishop moves out of range and Junior only half commits.
Bishop stuffs the takedown attempt from Junior. Junior gets slowly back to his feet.

Nice straight punches there by Bishop. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Bishop.
Bishop looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Rich Junior seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Junior changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Bishop tries to avoid it but Junior manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Bishop to the ground. Bishop escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Bishop buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
A punch combination from Bishop misses.

Junior dives in for a single leg takedown but Bishop sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Junior shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Bishop as he jumps to the side.

Bishop looks for the body kick but Junior saw that one coming.
Horrible takedown attempt by Junior or perhaps it was just good defense by Bishop, which made it look bad.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

An inside leg kick lands from Bishop.
Bishop pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Junior back to the cage. Bishop follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Junior throws a series of punches but Bishop avoids them all with ease.
Junior takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Bishop keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Bishop dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Junior. That did some damage!
Bishop connects with a leg kick. Junior looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Junior will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Junior drops his hands momentarily and Bishop takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Bishop throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
