Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jamel Bernard! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Julius Creek! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The fight moves into the clinch position. Bernard is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Creek gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Bernard has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Creek avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Creek effectively controlling the action here. Bernard is trying to break the clinch but Creek is controlling him. Creek breaks from the clinch.
Bernard shoots in and drives through. Creek sprawls well. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jamel Bernard. That's going to take a lot out of him. Creek tries a head kick but it misses.
Creek shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Bernard manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Creek looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Let's hope that Creek has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
That's one minute gone in the round. Creek pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Bernard is keeping the position for now. Creek passes Bernard's left leg - he's now in half guard. Creek wants to work for an arm triangle but Bernard is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Creek is thwarting Bernard's attempts to control the position. Creek is figuring out what he wants to do next. Bernard is trying to control but can't.
Creek is controlling the pace.
Creek's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Creek has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bernard is looking to improve his position but Creek isn't that keen on the idea. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Creek tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Creek has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Bernard is forced to tap!
