Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
23 - 12 - 0, fighting out of New York, Willie Bader! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
25 - 20 - 1, fighting out of New York, AL Lickertwat! The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Reed Andrews and David Schapiro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lickertwat changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Bader looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Bader bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet! Bader fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Lickertwat bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Bader wants to get back to his feet but Lickertwat drags him back down. Lickertwat is trying to get an arm triangle but Bader is defending well. Lickertwat is trying to get an arm triangle but Bader is defending well. Lickertwat prevents Bader from escaping the position. Bader prevents Lickertwat from moving into mount. Lickertwat working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bader tries to escape but Lickertwat is in control. Lickertwat wants to control but Bader is keeping him busy. Bader wants to get back to his feet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bader gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Lickertwat fails to take his opponent's back. Lickertwat looking to control but Bader is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Lickertwat working for a guillotine from mount but Bader is in no mood to give up. Lickertwat wants to take Bader's back here but Bader is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Lickertwat looking to control but Bader is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Lickertwat forces the positional change into back control. Bader showing good submission defense here.
Bader is trying to get back to his feet but Lickertwat has full control of the position and if anything, Bader has just worked his way into a worse spot.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bader manages to stand up with Lickertwat still on his back. Eventually Lickertwat drops to his feet and we're back in the standing position. Bader tries to score a power double leg takedown but Lickertwat sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bader somewhat. Lickertwat shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Bader napping and manages to drive through into side control! Bader throws Lickertwat to one side and escapes! Lickertwat changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Bader looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Lickertwat tries to advance to mount but Bader denies him. Bader is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Lickertwat tries to move to mount but Bader blocks the move with his legs. Bader is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Lickertwat has just dragged him back down to the mat. Lickertwat controlling the position. Bader is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Lickertwat is controlling him well. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Excellent takedown into side control there by Lickertwat. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Bader prevents Lickertwat from improving position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
AL Lickertwat dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Bader shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Lickertwat is trying to defend but Bader finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Lickertwat makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Lickertwat. Bader throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Lickertwat works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Bader with a flurry of punches that miss. Lickertwat lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. AL Lickertwat has got the better of the ground game so far. Lickertwat controls from within his opponent's guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lickertwat wants to control from the top but Bader keeps moving. Lickertwat slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bader keeping full guard, as Lickertwat tries to pass. Bader wants to get back to his feet but Lickertwat is in a dominant position and won't allow it. My spies in The Beast inform me that Lickertwat has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Lickertwat passes Bader's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Bader is defending against the submission attempts here by Lickertwat.
Bader is refusing to be controlled, as Lickertwat sits in half guard. Lickertwat wants to pass to mount but Bader is defending the position. Lickertwat is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Bader has managed to free his arm - good work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Lickertwat wants to control but Bader is keeping him busy.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Lickertwat closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Bader to the mat! Bader manages to get full guard. Bader is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows. Lickertwat throws a punch but it's blocked by Bader. Lickertwat lands an uppercut. Lickertwat tries for a takedown but Bader manages to get underhooks.
Lickertwat goes for a takedown attempt but Bader pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Bader moves into the clinch successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lickertwat breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Bader gets caught napping as Lickertwat dives in and scores a takedown. Bader manages to retain guard. Lickertwat prevents Bader from getting back to his feet. Lickertwat stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bader swivels though and keeps the full guard. Bader pushes Lickertwat off and scrambles back to his feet.
Lickertwat dives in for a single leg takedown but Bader sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Willie Bader has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of AL Lickertwat. Lickertwat tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Bader defends well and Lickertwat ends up having to push Bader into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Lickertwat displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Bader. Bader shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Lickertwat's guard. Lickertwat pulls Bader in to control the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Lickertwat looking to control but Bader passes into half guard.
Lickertwat is trying to get back to full guard. Bader working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Lickertwat on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Bader wants to take a breather but Lickertwat is having none of it. Bader not landing any meaningful shots this time. Lickertwat is trying to get back to full guard. Bader is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Lickertwat keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Willie Bader dominated that second round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!
Lickertwat looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Bader! Bader bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet! Bader drives through with a takedown into guard. Bader pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Lickertwat is keeping the position for now. Lickertwat is pulling down on Bader's head to control his posture. Lickertwat keeping moving, preventing Bader from controlling successfully. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lickertwat looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Lickertwat is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Bader missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Lickertwat is trying to control the position but Bader postures up.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Lickertwat keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Lickertwat drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Bader defends it well. Lickertwat gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Bader counters with a crisp one two that drops Lickertwat! Bader thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Lickertwat to his feet! Lickertwat is in big trouble!
Lickertwat is rocked! Lickertwat misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Lickertwat is still on wobbly legs! Can Bader finish him? Lickertwat tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Bader defends well and Lickertwat ends up having to push Bader into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Willie Bader has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of AL Lickertwat. Lickertwat takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Bader is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Bader has a takedown stuffed. Lickertwat with the counter takedown but Bader avoids it easily. Bader shoots in for a takedown. Oh, that's a huge slam! Lickertwat is on queer street and Bader is pounding down on him with a barage of strikes. The ref is forced to step in and stop the fight. Great finish!
