Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brian Pillman !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, El Matador!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Lou da Vinci and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pillman lands with an uppercut that bounces Matador off the cage and back into range.
Pillman misses with a few strikes there.
A swing and a miss from Pillman .
Matador takes one to the side of the head.
Pillman throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Matador on the side of the head.

Pillman drives through with a takedown into Matador's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Matador pushes Pillman off and gets back to his feet.
Pillman is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Matador darts in looking for a takedown but Pillman gets double underhooks and turns Matador into the cage.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Pillman enables Matador to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Pillman manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Pillman escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Matador gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Pillman wants to sweep but no luck.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Matador's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Matador is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Matador drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Matador jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Matador postures up in Pillman 's guard and throws a big left but Pillman blocks it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Pillman throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
And Matador tries to counter it with a takedown but Pillman pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Matador gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Matador walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Brian Pillman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pillman lands with a straight right. Matador didn't see that one coming.

Pillman misses with a hook. Matador ducked under it nicely.
Pillman scores with a jab.
Matador shoots in looking for a takedown but Pillman manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Matador's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Matador leaves Pillman with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Matador bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Matador tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Pillman swivels and escapes.

Matador tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Pillman defends well and Matador ends up having to push Pillman into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Pillman defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Matador.
Matador gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Pillman looks to land a right hand but Matador moved out of range.
Pillman throws out a loose jab but Matador uses good head movement to avoid it.
Matador keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Pillman .

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Pillman shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Pillman was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Pillman cracks Matador with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Matador is still in real trouble! Can Pillman finish him?
We've been hearing that Pillman has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Pillman postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Matador seems to have recovered his senses.
Pillman is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Matador's shoulder. That is not cool.
Matador is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Pillman asserts his dominance and retains side control.
The ground and pound from Pillman seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pillman is looking to take a break and control but Matador is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Matador pushes Pillman away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Pillman gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Pillman lands with a hook. Matador tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Matador shoots for a double leg takedown but Pillman sprawls well. He's pushed Matador's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Pillman closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Matador's guard.

Pillman manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Matador on his heels. He'll look to pass Matador's guard now, I'm sure.

Matador pushes Pillman off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Matador is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Pillman is controlling him.
Pillman looking to sit in guard and control but Matador gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Matador thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Matador is in close to Pillman 's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Pillman will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Pillman wants to sweep here but Matador controlling him for the moment.

Matador drops back looking for a leg! Pillman is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Pillman manages to kick Matador off! Matador jumps back into Pillman 's guard.

Matador drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Pillman manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Matador has Pillman in his guard.
Matador takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Matador has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Pillman has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Pillman is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Matador is keeping busy.

Pillman has Matador pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Pillman pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Matador tumbling to the mat - Pillman dives into Matador's guard.

Matador is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Pillman presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Matador is looking to stand up but Pillman isn't so interested in that idea.
Pillman postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Matador is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
El Matador has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Pillman , winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
