Nice straight punches there by Xavier. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Xavier.
Xavier drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Newman is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Newman really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Newman tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Xavier's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Newman takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Xavier forces Newman back against the cage and clinches.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Newman gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Xavier to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Newman has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Xavier is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Newman pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Xavier feints and as Newman raises his hands in defense, Xavier changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Xavier in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Newman wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Xavier manages to pass to side control.
Xavier prevents Newman from standing back up.

Xavier slips a nice elbow through Newman's hands, connecting with Newman's forehead.
Newman is rocked!
Xavier lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Newman quite badly. Newman pulls Xavier in close trying to recover. Xavier postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Newman on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Newman doesn't seem to be complaining too much.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Carlos Xavier!
