Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ongka Ongka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Payne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ongka comes into the arena with Abebe blaring out of the sound system. Ongka Ongka could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to John Payne's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 13 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ongka Ongka!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, John Payne!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Albert Achterberg and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ongka throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Payne's waist but Payne gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ongka off to one side.
Ongka thows a left - swing and a miss!
Ongka just misses with a punch to the body.

Ongka throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Payne was covering up waiting for the punch and Ongka finishes the takedown easily into guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Payne controls Ongka momentarily but Ongka frees himself.
Ongka tries to free his leg and advance position but Payne is retaining full guard.

Payne escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ongka gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Ongka has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ongka postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Payne is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Ongka, into his guard.

Payne passes Ongka's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Payne lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Payne prevents Ongka from improving his position.

Payne moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Ongka.

Payne is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Ongka has escaped the position, nice work there.

Ongka is looking for a sweep.
Payne is putting a hurting on Ongka here, landing some big shots from side control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee asks Payne politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Payne prefers to stall for the moment though.
Ongka is not content to let Payne control the position.

Payne looks up at the clock and then as Ongka takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Payne smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Payne tries for a kimura but Ongka is defending well.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Payne has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Ongka tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Payne wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Payne in side control here. He's dropped a big elbow there and Ongka looks hurt! Oh, he is hurt! Payne turns on the heat and pounds him out for a TKO victory! Good killer instinct there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Payne!
