Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Cedrick Shepherd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Junior Menezes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Junior Menezes enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Cedrick Shepherd! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Junior Menezes! The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Mauricio Rocha and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shepherd tries to clinch there but Menezes circles away.
Menezes throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Menezes fails to land the takedown. Junior Menezes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Shepherd clinches up with Menezes and pushes him back against the cage. Menezes gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Shepherd.
Shepherd jumps guard but Menezes turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Shepherd breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Shepherd closes this distance looking for a takedown but Menezes circles away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cedrick Shepherd. That's going to take a lot out of him. Shepherd keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Menezes is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Menezes looks winded!
That's one minute gone in the round. Menezes clinches up against the cage. Shepherd gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Menezes regains guard.
Menezes keeping full guard, as Shepherd tries to pass. Shepherd with a flurry of punches that miss. Shepherd throwing strikes from guard but Menezes blocks nicely. Shepherd in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Menezes looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. The fighters are working up against the cage. Menezes manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shepherd tries for a takedown. No joy.
Menezes with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Shepherd pulls guard. Shepherd is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Menezes is aware though and is defending well. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Shepherd has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Menezes is looking to stand up but Shepherd won't let him. Shepherd has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Shepherd looking for a guillotine here but Menezes defends easily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shepherd trying to keep a closed guard but Menezes is proving a slippery customer.
Menezes must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Menezes preventing the sweep. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Menezes trying to control but Shepherd is working from the bottom. Shepherd trying to control the position here.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Shepherd tries to clinch there but Menezes circles away.
Menezes rushes Shepherd and presses him up against the cage. Shepherd gets a nice trip takedown into half guard. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Menezes is refusing to be controlled, as Shepherd sits in half guard. Menezes wants to get back to his feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Cedrick Shepherd will probably get the nod. That's time! Back to the action!
Menezes looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Menezes dodges the punch combination from Shepherd.
Menezes throws a counter combo. Shepherd tries to close the distance and clinch up but Menezes swats him away and circles back towards the center. Menezes moves into the clinch. Shepherd wants to take the fight to the mat but Menezes manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Shepherd tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Menezes just stands there and leans against the cage. Menezes drags the fight down to the ground.
Shepherd might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Shepherd throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Shepherd accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Menezes is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Shepherd is aware though and is defending well. Shepherd content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Shepherd wants to control from the top but Menezes keeps moving. Shepherd won't allow Menezes to sweep him here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shepherd chips away with some ground and pound. Shepherd drops back looking for a leg! Menezes is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Menezes manages to kick Shepherd off! Shepherd jumps back into Menezes's guard. Our spies down at at Sentinel Sparring inform us that Menezes has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off? Shepherd connects with a couple of short punches. Cedrick Shepherd overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Shepherd is working Menezes over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Shepherd postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Menezes looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Shepherd's corner is telling him to maintain position. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Shepherd lands a couple of digs.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shepherd landing with the ground and pound. Shepherd prevents Menezes from getting back to his feet.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Menezes tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Shepherd swivels and escapes. Menezes doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Menezes will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Shepherd is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Menezes. Cedrick Shepherd is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Menezes fails with the takedown and Shepherd counters by clinching up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Shepherd is trying to break the clinch but Menezes is controlling him. Shepherd breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Shepherd shoots in for a double leg but Menezes sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Menezes is looking for the big counter here. Menezes shoots in but no luck this time. Shepherd scores with a nice right hand.
Shepherd tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Menezes paws at him with a jab and circles away. Shepherd decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Shepherd working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Shepherd throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Shepherd tries to pass to full mount but Menezes defends it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Cedrick Shepherd dominated that second round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!
Menezes closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Menezes lands in his opponent's guard. Shepherd is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Menezes rolls with it to try and escape but Shepherd cranks on the arm and Menezes is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
