PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tomi Tomppi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mikey Barr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tomppi kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Vanilla Ice - Ice Ice Baby. Mikey Barr is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Tomi Tomppi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mikey Barr!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Roosa Järviläinen and Marco Blurström.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barr shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Tomppi as he jumps to the side.
Tomppi gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Barr counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Tomppi is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Barr scores with a couple of nice shots.
Tomppi is not content to let Barr control the position.

Tomppi is defending against the submission attempts here by Barr.
Barr tries to pass the half guard into mount. Tomppi knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Barr is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Tomppi wants to improve his position but Barr is controlling well.
Barr wants to stand up but Tomppi has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Tomppi makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Tomppi.

Barr drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Tomppi dives on top into guard.
Barr looks gassed!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Barr is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Barr has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Tomppi is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Barr.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Tomppi stands up and beckons Barr to his feet.

Tomppi feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Tomppi drops back looking for a leg! Barr is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Barr manages to kick Tomppi off! Tomppi jumps back into Barr's guard.

Tomppi pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Barr is keeping the position for now.
Barr is pulling down on Tomppi's head. It's preventing any offense from Tomppi, at least for the moment.

Tomppi has gone for a leg lock! Barr slips out almost immediately though and dives into Tomppi's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

and Barr counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Barr moves into full mount! Tomppi won't be happy about that!

Barr prevents Tomppi from getting the reversal.

Barr stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Tomppi shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Barr counters with a nice double leg into side control. Tomppi won't be happy with that.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Barr is tying to control. Tomppi wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Barr passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Tomppi!

Barr is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Tomppi can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Barr goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Tomppi is on top in guard.

Barr looking for a triangle here. Tomppi is fighting it but it looks tight! Barr pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Tomppi is tapping out - this one is all over!
