Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jonathan Fuller! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Eulogy Velasquez! The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Albert Achterberg and Patrick Alders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Fuller uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Velasquez. Velasquez throws a big shot that misses. Fuller wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch. Fuller could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Velasquez throws a hook to the side of Fuller's head but Fuller sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Velasquez throws a push kick but Fuller slaps the foot to one side. Fuller instigates a clinch. Fuller wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Velasquez has him pressed against the cage. Fuller on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Fuller breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Velasquez misses with an uppercut. Velasquez thuds his right hand into Fuller's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
It looks like Jonathan Fuller has been cut. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A low kick from Velasquez misses and Fuller counters into the clinch. Nicely done. A short body shot lands from Velasquez as the two fighters clinch.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Velasquez creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Fuller tries to land knees in the clinch but Velasquez avoids the damage to the body. Velasquez digs a right hand into Fuller's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Fuller's gas tank. Fuller is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fuller breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Eulogy Velasquez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A big left from Velasquez misses. Velasquez misses with a body kick. Eulogy Velasquez is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Fuller closes the distance and clinches. Fuller tries to circle away but Velasquez has him pinned against the cage. Velasquez tries to throw a body punch but Fuller avoids it by throwing Velasquez back against the cage. Fuller escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Velasquez feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Fuller sprawling to the canvas! Fuller rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Velasquez finish him?!
Fuller is rocked! Velasquez batters Fuller with a massive right followed by a huge left! Fuller is out on his feet looking like a zombie as Velasquez lands a final crushing right hand to drop Fuller to the mat with a gruesome thud! Velasquez is running around like a mad man after that fight and for good reason!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Eulogy Velasquez!
