Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Heath Mullen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Andrew Bourne! The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Donald Grub and Sam Margolis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mullen tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Bourne counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Bourne throws a left and a right that both miss
and Mullen counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Bourne pushes Mullen off and gets back to his feet. Mullen rushes Bourne and presses him up against the cage. Bourne manages to break the clinch.
Mullen fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Bourne has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Mullen is landing a low percentage of strikes. Mullen moves out of range of the body kick. Andrew Bourne seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Bourne lands a head kick. Mullen smiles back at him and beckons him forward. This has been an exciting period of action! Bourne scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
It looks like Heath Mullen has been cut. Mullen moves into the clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mullen fails to pull guard.
Mullen jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Bourne walks away with a smile on his face. Mullen gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Heath Mullen. That's going to take a lot out of him. Bourne drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Bourne is working Mullen over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Bourne advances position into side control! Bourne is looking to take a break and control but Mullen is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mullen is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Bourne is one step ahead and moves to full mount! Mullen could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Mullen really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Bourne lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Mullen hang on?
Mullen is rocked! Bourne drops a big elbow. That's hurt Mullen! More shots from Bourne and the ref steps in! The fight is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Andrew Bourne!
