Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
28 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Don Wilson! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
27 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jamal Quik! The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Roosa Järviläinen and Marco Blurström.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Quik looks to land a combination but Wilson avoids it well. Quik moves away from the strike by Wilson. Quik throws a low kick but Wilson avoids it. Quik lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Wilson has been working on his boxing with his coaches at PhoQus Sports Enterprise in the buildup to the fight. Wilson closes the distance and clinches. Quik blocks an uppercut.
Wilson misses with an elbow strike.
Quik's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Don Wilson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Quik ducks under a wild hook from Wilson. Wilson misses with a body shot.
Quik throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Wilson takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Quik throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena. Quik shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Quik showed some decent athleticism there. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Wilson controlling the position for now. Wilson regains full guard. Nicely done.
That's one minute gone in the round. Quik controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Wilson has control of Quik's left arm, preventing Quik from doing any damage. Quik looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Wilson wants to stand but Quik is controlling the position. Wilson wants to sweep here but Quik controlling him for the moment. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Quik pushes down on Wilson's leg and manages to get into half guard.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Wilson throws a combination that misses and Quik counters with a body kick. A nice leg kick lands there from Quik. Quik misses with a head kick.
A little feinted left hand from Wilson on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Quik walks into a straight right hand from Wilson. Wilson fails to land with a series of punches.
Quik replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Wilson blocks it well. Wilson throws a shot from downtown. Quik moves away and avoids it. Quik fakes the leg kick and cracks Wilson in the body. Quik dives in and scores a takedown into Wilson's guard. Wilson wants to sweep but no luck. Quik is stalling in the full guard. Wilson lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wilson looking to sit in guard and control but Quik gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Wilson has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Quik has passed into side control.
Wilson is trying to improve his position. Quik decides to stand up, so the ref orders Wilson to his feet. Don Wilson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Wilson loads up on a big right hand but Quik slips the punch. Quik slips a straight right by Wilson. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Quik moves forwards but Wilson connects with a nice, crisp jab. A punch combination from Wilson misses. A left lands for Quik.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Quik bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Quik is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Wilson. Quik bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Wilson's head. Wilson is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Quik. Quik gets in close and instigates a clinch. Quik takes an elbow to the temple. Quik working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Quik blocks a punch to the side of the head.

With the fighters up against the cage, Wilson throws an elbow but misses. Wilson misses with an elbow over the top. Wilson breaks the clinch.
Quik gets a clinch. Quik throws a punch but it's blocked by Wilson. Wilson lands an elbow inside that Quik shrugs off. Wilson misses with a short punch on the inside. Wilson throws a head punch that misses. Quik breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. A decent looking body kick lands there for Quik. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jamal Quik dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Wilson is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Quik uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Wilson.
A big right from Wilson misses. A swing and a miss from Wilson. Wilson avoids the head kick by Quik.
Wilson works the jab nicely. Quik bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Quik fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Quik shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Wilson defends it nicely. Wilson lands with a shot to the body. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Quik fails to land with a series of punches.
Nice straight punches there by Wilson. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Wilson. Wilson is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all. Quik misses with a hook. Wilson ducked under it nicely. Wilson swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Quik.

and Quik counters with a right hand to the body. Quik throws a body kick that digs right into the meat. Quik shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Wilson has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Quik off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. Wilson scores with a crisp jab that stopped Quik in his tracks.
Quik is rocked! Wilson is looking for an opening here. He's unloaded a big left hand that catches Quik flush on the jaw and sends him tumbling to the canvas! Quik is out cold! Wilson holds back from landing any unnecessary shots to his unconscious opponent, as the referee reacts slowly to the situation. A brutal knockout and then some excellent sportsmanship - this guy is my new favorite fighter!
