PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mike Swick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Troy Zabler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mike Swick!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Troy Zabler!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Joseph Jones and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zabler throws a right and a left that Swick avoids nicely.
Swick fails with a takedown attempt.
Some wild striking there from Zabler.
Zabler misses with a wild combination.
Zabler throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Swick looks to land a combination. Zabler sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Swick swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Zabler counters with a three punch combo that has Swick backing up. Swick nods at Zabler to acknowledge the strikes.

Swick closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Swick is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Swick is working for a submission of some sort.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Zabler can do anything to dispel that myth.

Zabler is defending against the submission attempts here by Swick.
Zabler is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Swick throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Swick is looking for a kimura but Zabler is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Swick to get the leverage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Swick wants to take a breather but Zabler is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Swick tries to pass the half guard into mount. Zabler knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Swick is working for a kimura but Zabler is defending it quite comfortably.

Zabler is defending against the submission attempts here by Swick.
Swick is looking to take a break and control but Zabler is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Zabler is trying to stand.
Swick thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Zabler is trying to stand back up but Swick is controlling him
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Swick drops an elbow to the side of Zabler's head.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Swick shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Zabler's guard.
Swick is working Zabler over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Swick won't allow Zabler to get back to his feet.
Swick wants to control from the top but Zabler keeps moving.
Zabler is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Zabler is breathing heavily.

Swick working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Swick might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Swick advances position into side control!
Zabler is not content to let Swick control the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Zabler falls off balance throwing a combination

and Swick counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Zabler's guard now.
Swick advances to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Swick is looking for a kimura but Zabler is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Swick to get the leverage.
Swick lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Swick works his foot free and advances to mount.
Swick lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Swick working for a guillotine from mount but Zabler is in no mood to give up.
Swick has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Zabler's face.
Swick can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Zabler is looking to escape.

Swick looking to isolate an arm here. Zabler doesn't see it coming and as Swick extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Swick!
