The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Anthony Taglia and Columbo Gatti.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thompson darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Rodriguez moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Thompson wants to pass the guard but Rodriguez is keeping the position.
Thompson postures up.
Rodriguez utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Thompson prevents Rodriguez from getting back to his feet.
Rodriguez is trying to control the position but Thompson postures up.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Thompson showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Rodriguez.
Thompson moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Thompson stalks Rodriguez and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Rodriguez's face. Rodriguez staggers backwards, shaken.
Rodriguez fails with an attempt to clinch.
Thompson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Rodriguez wants to control but Thompson is having none of it.
Thompson landing punches.
Rodriguez is rocked!
Thompson looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Rodriguez is still in real trouble! Can Thompson finish him?
Thompson cracks Rodriguez with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Thompson with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Oooooh, big shot lands for Thompson! Rodriguez is hurt baaadly! Thompson is firing away with more strikes - Rodriguez is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!
