PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Archie Morse (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Dwyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Dwyer's choice of entrance music: Metallica - Enter Sandman. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Archie Morse!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Dwyer!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, George Francis and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Morse gets caught napping as Dwyer dives in and scores a takedown. Morse manages to retain guard.
Morse avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Dwyer must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Dwyer throws a strike but Morse rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Morse working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Morse throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Morse is looking to stand up but Dwyer won't let him.
Dwyer is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Morse is controlling him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Morse loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Morse throwing strikes from guard but Dwyer blocks nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dwyer tries to land a sweep but no joy.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Morse throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Dwyer tries for a takedown but Morse circles away easily
and Morse counters with a head kick. That will keep Dwyer thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Dwyer.
Dwyer looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Morse is avoiding damage well.
Morse tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Dwyer wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Dwyer with the ground and pound but Morse regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
Dwyer thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Dwyer is looking to pass Morse's guard but actually Morse recovers to full guard.
Dwyer trying to control the position from guard on top but Morse is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Dwyer has gone for a leg lock! Morse slips out almost immediately though and dives into Dwyer's guard.
Dwyer lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Dwyer scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Dwyer stops Morse from getting back to his feet.
Morse is staying active underneath Dwyer, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Morse gets full guard.
Dwyer wants to control from the top but Morse keeps moving.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Morse looking for a sweep. Not yet Morse, not yet.
Morse avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Dwyer is in close to Morse's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Dwyer gets to his feet. Morse looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Morse is breathing heavily.

Dwyer closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Morse to the mat! Morse manages to get full guard.

Morse pushes Dwyer off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Morse really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Morse feints and as Dwyer raises his hands in defense, Morse changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Dwyer is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Morse is fighting off a takedown attempt but Dwyer is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Morse to the mat. Morse regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Dwyer has gone for a leg lock! Morse slips out almost immediately though and dives into Dwyer's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Dwyer dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Dwyer instigates a clinch.
Dwyer changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Morse fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Dwyer has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Morse gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dwyer throws a strike but Morse avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Dwyer cracks Morse with a solid left hand.
Dwyer throws a strike but Morse rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Morse throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Dwyer works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Morse is in close to Dwyer's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Dwyer looking to hit a scissor sweep but Morse is one step ahead there.
Dwyer is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Morse wants to stand but Dwyer has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Morse looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Dwyer has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Morse off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Morse gets caught napping as Dwyer dives in and scores a takedown. Morse manages to retain guard.
Dwyer tries to free his leg and advance position but Morse is retaining full guard.
Dwyer works over Morse with some ground and pound from guard.
Morse will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Dwyer stands up and waves to Morse to follow him.
John Dwyer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Dwyer drives through with a takedown into guard.
Morse keeping moving, preventing Dwyer from controlling successfully.

Morse wants to stand but Dwyer is controlling the position.
Dwyer postures up and lands a big shot to Morse's brow.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

John Dwyer showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Dwyer shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Morse napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Morse dodges the ground and pound from Dwyer.
Morse takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.


Morse is rocked!

Dwyer is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Morse has escaped the position, nice work there.
Oh Morse is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
A big shot lands for Dwyer! That's hurt Morse! Will he recover? Dwyer fires away with more strikes and the referee has to step in to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:48 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Dwyer!
A very excited looking John Dwyer made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
