Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Risto Riekko! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Razval Saraev! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Dirk Anderson and Sandra Marshall.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! That kick from Riekko tenderised Saraev's leg. Saraev is trying to keep his angry face on. A clash of legs there as Saraev blocks the low kick. Riekko tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Saraev counters with a nice double leg into side control. Riekko won't be happy with that. Saraev throws an elbow but Riekko slips to the side and avoids it well. Riekko on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Riekko tries to get out of the position. Saraev is putting a hurting on Riekko here, landing some big shots from side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Saraev lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Riekko knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Saraev on the ground. Saraev scoring with punches from side control. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Saraev throws a strike aimed at the side of Riekko's head but Riekko avoids it well. Saraev lands a few punches from side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Saraev working the head with strikes. A lull in the action here as Saraev stalls from top position. Riekko has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage. Riekko is looking to regain half guard here but Saraev keeps moving and retains side control. Saraev works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. Riekko is trying to get back to half guard. Riekko on the wrong end of some ground and pound. Riekko takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Saraev has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Riekko is trying to work for a sweep but Saraev has mounted him!
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Saraev pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Saraev scoring with strikes but Riekko is staying in there.
Riekko is rocked! Saraev lands a big shot to the head and Riekko winces in pain. He's tapped out due to strikes!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Razval Saraev!
