Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Sombat Banchamek! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Waldemar Suwmiarka! The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, William Gold and Chris Edwards.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice cross by Banchamek. Banchamek lands a nice looking body shot.
Banchamek lands a right hook to the body.
Sloppy strikes from Banchamek. Those never looked like landing. Suwmiarka swings widly with a right hand
and Banchamek counters with a stiff right hand. Banchamek moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Banchamek throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Suwmiarka stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Suwmiarka shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Banchamek sprawls well. Banchamek wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Suwmiarka gets slowly back to his feet. Suwmiarka looks winded! Banchamek getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Suwmiarka tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Banchamek cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
That's one minute gone in the round. Suwmiarka slips a jab and a cross from Banchamek.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Suwmiarka has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Banchamek scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Banchamek keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
We've been told by Banchamek's head coaches at Canadian Top Team that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Donk. Banchamek catches Suwmiarka right on the button with a cross. Banchamek dances in with a quick combination. Suwmiarka is being worked over with jabs and crosses. Oooh, a right straight from Banchamek snaps Suwmiarka's head back. Suwmiarka stumbles backwards against the cage. Banchamek steps forward and delivers a right cross that connects with Suwmiarka's jaw, simultaneously knocking him out and sending his mouthpiece into the crowd! There's a worthy souvenir for the fans. This one is over folks. Suwmiarka just didn't come prepared.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Sombat Banchamek! Sombat Banchamek took his opportunity to call for a title shot in his post fight interview.
