The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mati throws a lazy body kick

and Bonner decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Mati's guard.

Bonner has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Mati closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Bonner to the mat! Bonner manages to get full guard.
Bonner bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mati's guard.

Mati has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Bonner regains guard immediately.

Mati is breathing heavily.
Bonner throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Mati tries to sprawl but Bonner drives through with a takedown into half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bonner seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Bonner in particular looking to stall.
Mati strikes from the bottom but Bonner uses the opportunity to move to side control.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
