Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
25 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mark Avreli! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
33 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Karol Cropp! The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Paulsen Ambrosius and Aafke Stam.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cropp tries for a takedown but Avreli circles away easily and Avreli counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. The fighters circling - Avreli throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Cropp uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Avreli. Avreli checks a low kick from Cropp. Avreli feinted with a counter takedown. Avreli scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Avreli in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Avreli working the ground and pound from side control. Cropp is positioning himself to get back to half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Avreli is looking to take a break and control but Cropp is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Cropp is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Cropp is staying active underneath Avreli, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Avreli looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Avreli scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Cropp wants to improve his position but Avreli is controlling well.
Cropp looks like he's trying to stand up.
Cropp misses with some strikes from the bottom.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Avreli lands a nice short elbow. Cropp is looking to improve his position.
Avreli lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Cropp looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Cropp wants to control but Avreli is keeping busy.
Avreli takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Avreli trying to control from half guard but Cropp is working away. Cropp is trying to get back to full guard. Avreli is thwarting Cropp's attempts to control the position. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. A slow jab from Cropp misses its intended target. Cropp moves out of range as Avreli strikes. Avreli getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Karol Cropp seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Avreli misses with a jab, cross combination.
No luck for Cropp with that takedown attempt. Avreli fakes the body blow, causing Cropp to drop his hands! Left hook to the temple! Cropp goes stiff, and falls face first into the mat. Goodnight!
