Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ben Steller! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Neal Ward! The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Franklyn Lucas and Dean Styles.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ward tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Steller was well out of range. Poor timing from Ward. Ward fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Steller has Ward up against the cage in a clinch.
Steller tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Ward jumps into guard, dragging Steller to the mat.
Steller passes easily into side control. Nice work. Ward takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Ward trying his best to control but Steller has mounted him. Steller breaks from Ward's wrist control and lands an elbow. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Steller working the ground and pound effectively.
Ward is trying to escape the mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ward taking shots to the head. Steller lands a big elbow.
Ward is rocked! Ward tries to lock up and control but Steller gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Ward is still in real trouble! Can Steller finish him? Ward is working to get back to half guard.
Steller controlling the pace for now. Ward seems to have recovered his senses. Steller looking to finish Ward with some ground and pound. This is bad for Ward! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Steller landing punches. Ward is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Ward tries to reverse the position but Steller maintains control. Ward sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Ward actively working from the bottom here. Ward is looking to improve his position.

Steller lands strikes from half guard. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Steller lands a nice short elbow. Steller lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Steller lands strikes from half guard. Ward looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Ward has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Steller is working away from the top position though. Steller is looking to advance position but Ward won't allow it. Ward has hold of Steller's hands but Steller slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ward is trying to get back to full guard. Ward gets back to full guard.
Ward is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Steller defends well. Steller postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Ward has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Steller can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Steller with a nice head shot there. Steller landing with the ground and pound. Steller landing some decent shots from guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Steller working some strikes from top position. Steller postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Steller scoring with some ground and pound. Steller wants to pass the guard but Ward is keeping the position. Steller lands a couple of digs. Steller pushing down on Ward's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Ward makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Ward. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Ward is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Steller defends well. Steller cracks Ward with a solid left hand. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ben Steller dominated that round. That's time! Steller's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Ward tries to clinch but fails miserably and Steller counters with a takedown into side control. Steller landing a few strikes. Steller is putting a hurting on Ward here, landing some big shots from side control. Steller working the ground and pound from side control. Steller is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Ward can do to turn this around? Ward on the wrong end of some ground and pound. Ward is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Ward manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Steller is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Ben Steller overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Ward is keen to just control but Steller is a slippery customer. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ward passes the guard and advances to mount! Ward is working for a guillotine from mount but Steller frees his head quite easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Steller tries to get back to half guard but can't. Ward is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Steller has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Steller! Steller postures up.
Steller landing some decent shots from guard. Steller stands up over Ward, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Ward working for a triangle but Steller defends it easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Steller scoring with punches to the head and body. Steller has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Steller is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Steller postures up and lands a big shot to Ward's brow. Steller avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Ward is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Steller frees his head nicely. Oh but Ward has switched to an armbar! Steller is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
