Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 28 - 12 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, John Conteh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Ian Smith!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Roger Salmon and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
A swing and a miss from Conteh.
We've been told by Conteh's head coaches at gym closing that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Smith slips a jab from Conteh.
Nice takedown defense from Conteh. No joy for Smith on that attempt.
Smith looks to throw the jab but Conteh is out of range.
Smith scores with a hook to the body. Conteh takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Conteh misses with an uppercut. Smith saw that one coming.
Smith takes one to the chin there.
Smith throws a hook but Conteh blocks it.
Smith moves away from the strike by Conteh.
Conteh misses with a straight right.
Smith tries to land a body kick
and Conteh counters with a nice uppercut.
A slow jab from Smith misses its intended target.
Conteh is looking to counter punch.
Smith throws a leg kick
and Conteh counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Smith scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!


It looks like John Conteh has been cut.
Smith throws a half hearted mid kick.
Conteh pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

Ian Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Smith darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

The fighters circle momentarily. Smith darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Smith misses with a low kick.
Smith has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.
John Conteh is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Smith looks to throw the jab but Conteh is out of range.
Conteh swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.

Conteh gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Smith scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

and Conteh makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Conteh throws a hook to the side of Smith's head but Smith sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Smith lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The fighters circling - Conteh throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Smith throws a nice looking combination but Conteh bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Smith loads up on a big right hand but Conteh slips the punch.
Smith throws a big shot that misses.
Conteh takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Some bone on bone action there as Conteh checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Smith must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Smith.
Smith works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Conteh is looking to reverse the position.
Conteh is trying to get back to his feet.
Conteh takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

The ground and pound from Smith seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Ian Smith comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Smith has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
